Job Description:

Job Purpose

The purpose of the Physician Scheduler is to schedule patients for a specific physician. This includes scheduling appointments, follow-ups, and rescheduling missed appointments.

Essential Job Functions

  • Schedule appointments for patients to see physician, APP, labs, scans, etc.
  • Confirm patient appointments.
  • Maintain office schedules for the physicians and extenders.
  • Answer telephones and direct calls to appropriate staff.
  • Receive and route messages and documents as needed.
  • Greet patients, ascertain purpose of visit, and direct them to appropriate staff.
  • Operate office equipment such as voice mail messaging systems, and use word processing, spreadsheet, and other software applications as needed to do work assigned.
  • Perform various clerical and administrative functions as needed.
  • Transmit information or documents as needed, using computer, mail, or facsimile machine.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Must be able to multi-task and have a commitment to excellence in patient care.
  • Must be sensitive to patients and their needs.
  • Must be able to interact with a variety of people.
  • Must be able to handle stress.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in written form.

Education/Experience

  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least (1) year experience in a medical office environment required.

Working conditions

This position works in the scheduling department of a busy oncology/hematology clinic. Patient interaction is required.

Physical requirements

This position requires that the employee be able to sit at a computer for up to eight hours a day. Heavy phone usage is also required.

Direct reports

This is not a supervisory position.
