Overview

 

Automotive service technicians inspect, maintain, and repair automobiles and light trucks that run on gasoline, diesel fuel, electricity, or alternative fuels such as ethanol. Automotive service technicians’ and mechanics’ responsibilities have evolved from simple mechanical repairs to high-level technology-related work. The increasing sophistication of automobiles requires workers who can use computerized shop equipment and work with electronic components while maintaining their skills with traditional hand tools. Automotive service technicians and mechanics also have the skills necessary to maintain and repair other types of equipment when given special training.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience - High school diploma or general education degree (GED) Technical

degree.

 

Current ASE or Ford Certification for the areas of Responsibilities

 

Master Tech or Senior Master Tech Certified (Preferred)

 

A current Alabama driver’s license and clear motor vehicle record are required to apply for this position.

 

EVT Certification must begin in the first year of employment with completion by the 3rd year, Training paid for by employer.

 

Language Skills - Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure, and automotive manuals.

 

Mathematical Skills - Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

 

Reasoning Ability - Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
