Job Title: Cardiac Rehab Exercise Physiologist

Department: Rehab

Reports To: Rehab Manager

Location: Hospital

FLSA Status: Non-exempt









Job Summary:

A health care professional who address the education and restoration of maximum function by evaluating and treating people with limitations resulting from, but not limited to cardiac disease, pulmonary disease, and peripheral artery disease.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Provides evaluation, treatment planning, and treatment implementation to adult and geriatric clients; addresses individual developmental, cognitive and physical needs, as well as cultural differences. 

  2. Coordinates client care with other disciplines through good communication and intervention recommendations.

  3. Provides education, information, and training to clients, family, caregivers, and community to promote continuity of care, optimum therapeutic outcome, healthy lifestyle and community health.

  4. Maintains documentation and records of treatment performance to assure quality client care, meet regulatory and professional standards, and receive optimal reimbursement.

  5. Acts as a consultant to internal and external customers.

  6. Maintains education, knowledge, and training required to provide up-to-date, quality care to meet client case load and community needs and meet minimum state licensure requirements.

  7. Participates in quality improvement and peer review to assure effective and efficient services. 

  8. Performs all other related duties as assigned. 


Accountabilities for all Employees:

  2. Maintains confidentiality of the organization and patients.

  3. Reports any health/medical errors.

  4. Observes all Environment of Care policies and reports safety risks or hazards immediately.


Education, Training or Degree Required:

  1. BS or BA degree in Exercise Physiology required

  2. Masters degree preferred

  3. Previous experience (1+ year) in a similar setting preferred

  4. Demonstrates knowledge of age-related growth and development principles necessary to

provide appropriate service and assure safety of patients.

  1. Demonstrates an understanding of: anatomy, physiology, and pathology of heart disease and pulmonary systems; exercise implications for cardiovascular and pulmonary systems; cardiac and pulmonary risk factor modification; vitals such as blood pressure, heart rate, oxygen saturation, and blood sugar levels.

  2. Demonstrates knowledge of effects of exercise and ability to modify program as needed for each individual. Has basic knowledge of nutrition, risk factors and behavior modification strategies.


License/Registration/Certification Required: (will be primary source verified by HR)

  1. Current CPR certification required

  2. Current ACLS certification required

    1. If not currently certified upon hire, the employee will have 60 days from start date to become certified.

  3. ACSM Exercise Specialist preferred


Experience and Skills: (indicate preferred or required)

  1. Previous work experience in a cardiac/pulmonary setting is desirable, but not required.  

  2. Education/Training in EKG reading required.
