Job Summary:

The professional RN administers nursing care guided by the Nurse Practice Act and the policies and procedures of the organization.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Applies the nursing process to assess pertinent data utilizing patient, family/designated caregivers and interdisciplinary input.

  2. In collaboration with the patient, family, designated caregivers and interdisciplinary team the nurse develops and implements a plan of care with identified outcomes for the patient.

  3. In collaboration with the patient, family/designated caregivers and the interdisciplinary team patient progress is evaluated relative to the plan of care. The plan is modified and adjusted to meet identified outcomes and patient preferences.

  4. Completed timely and comprehensive patient documentation, in accordance with service area standards.

  5. Applies Evidence Based Practice and Quality of Care Standards to nursing practice.

  6. Applies principles of Safe Patient Care Initiatives to delivery of patient care

  7. Demonstrates stewardship of organizational resources and applies to nursing practice.

  8. Connects the practice of nursing to service area/organization initiatives through committee/project participation and attendance of service area/organization meetings. As a member of the health care team looks for mechanisms to improve efficiency and patient care delivery.

  9. Demonstrates a commitment to professional development through completion of mandatory education and annual service area competencies.

  10. Demonstrates punctuality and consistent attendance record.

  11. Appropriately delegates and provides supervisory oversight for support staff roles.

  12. Demonstrates professionalism with a consistently supportive, positive demeanor in workplace interactions.

  13. Performs all other related duties as assigned.


Accountabilities for all Employees:

  1. Adheres to the Hutchinson Health Employee Values.

  2. Maintains confidentiality of the organization and patients.

  3. Reports any health/medical errors.

  4. Observes all Environment of Care policies and reports safety risks or hazards immediately.


Education, Training or Degree Required:

  1. Graduate of an approved nursing program.

  2. Current Minnesota RN license (will be primary source verified by HR).

License/Registration/Certification Required: (will be primary source verified by HR)

  1. CPR (within 30 days of start date)

  2. ACLS-required for all direct patient care RNs

    1. Med/Surg and BirthCare-if not certified at time of hire, between year 1 and 2 of start date

    2. All other RNs-if not certified at the time of hire, within 1 year of start date

  1. PALS, PEARS or ENPC-required for ER, ICU, PACU, SDS

    1. If not certified at time of hire, within 1 year of start date

  2. TNCC required for ER & ICU

    1. If not certified at time of hire, within 1 year of start date

  3. Intermediate Fetal Monitoring-required for BirthCare

    1. If not certified at time of hire, within 2 years from start date

  4. NRP-required for BirthCare

    1. If not certified at time of hire, within 1 year of start date

  5. STABLE-required for BirthCare

    1. If not certified at time of hire, within 2 years from start date

*Certifications and mandatory education requirements may be extended by Hutchinson Health during a pandemic.


Experience and Skills: (indicate preferred or required)

  1. Good oral and written communication skills required.

  2. Critical thinking and the ability to manage time and prioritize tasks is required.
