JOB SUMMARY: Assists the Pharmacist in managing, maintaining, and advancing all of the various pharmacy related IT products while working with the clinical staff to develop templated, efficient documentation. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Assists the Pharmacist in providing medication, drug information and pharmaceutical services to patients, nurses, physician and other hospital personnel. 2. Doses medications under the supervision of a pharmacist. 3. Maintains inventory of medications and supplies and reorders them accordingly. 4. Assists in filling anesthesia trays and floor stock orders. 5. Processes records of medications dispensed to patients or customers, computes charges and either enters them into the computer system. 6. Prepares select reports. 7. Receives and stores incoming deliveries of medication and supplies. 8. Participates in departmental and organizational performance improvement and CQI activities. 9. Assists the Pharmacists in providing pharmaceutical care for patients ranging in age from new born to the elderly. Is able to identify and understand that there are dosage variations between newborn, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients and know to consult with the Pharmacist if any doubts or question arise. 10. Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors. 11. Maintains the Pharmacy Department in a clean and orderly manner. 12. Performs other pharmacy-related duties as requested or required. 13. Applies common sense and understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral and diagram form. 14. Deals with problems involving several variables in particular situations. 15. Recognizes inappropriate dosing based in available dosage forms for various age groups. 16. Completes annual education requirements. 17. Maintains patient confidentiality at all times. 18. Maintains regulatory requirements. 19. Reports to work on time and as scheduled, completes work within designated time. 20. Completes in-services and returns in a timely fashion. 21. Attends annual review and department in-services, as scheduled. 22. Cooperates with employees in the pharmacy and in other departments to provide optimal customer service. 23. Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner. 24. Actively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities. 25. Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices. 26. Communicates the mission, ethics, and goals of the hospital, as well as the focus statement of the department. 27. Demonstrates cooperative behavior with colleagues and supervisors. 28. Can serve as a knowledgeable expert for placement, configuration, monitoring, maintaining, and troubleshooting automation and technology systems, and provides users and staff with consultative support. 29. Collaborates with the pharmacist informaticist in managing technology and information systems based on a shared understanding of system requirements, and capabilities, and limitations. 30. Identifies end user educational requirements and training needs and develops educational programs, instructional materials, and appropriate tools to educate users and support staff at all levels of the facility. 31. Maintains state of the art knowledge of changes in technology, and the clinical environment to identify, propose, formulate, and support new or revised major technological policies and directives for automation and systems technology. 32. Maintains an ongoing personal relationship with onsite peers, pharmacist informaticists, technical support staff, administrative staff, and health care professionals within the facility. 33. Maintains appropriate charging controls to ensure accurate patient and third party billing. 34. Education in all age groups ranging from newborn to geriatric population obtained either in school education, experience, or subsequent training. Graduate of certified training program/healthcare careers college and/or training equivalent. Pharmacy technician certification. Experience: One year related pharmacy experience and/or education equivalent. Language/Communication: Ability to read and communicate effectively in English. Additional languages preferred. Mental Capabilities: Must be a motivated critical thinker and problem solver. Interpersonal: Is capable of appropriate and proactive cooperation with colleagues and supervisors. Performance: Works well under pressure, and can meet multiple and sometimes competing deadlines. Can maintain confidentiality.
