Idaho National Laboratory is hiring an Experiment Engineer to work in the Advanced Test Reactor (ATR) Experiment Engineering department. Our team works a 4x10 schedule located at the ATR facility with every Friday off. 

You will help facilitate the irradiation of experiments at the Advanced Test Reactor and ensure ATR evolutions for the experiments are conducted within the bounds of operational and safety requirements. 

 

Responsibilities Include:

  • Perform experiment safety analysis to demonstrate that experiments comply with all applicable nuclear safety requirements.
  • Develop experiment specific safety requirements and ensure requirements are properly implemented into procedures and other work control documents.
  • Collaborate with other INL organizations for analysis, design, and other engineering activities. This will also include providing engineering deliverables and performing reviews.
  • Evaluate, design, modify, install, and test facility systems and process support systems. Ensure continued operational readiness of assigned systems, structures and components and support.
  • Initiate corrective actions in abnormal situations.
  • Monitor nuclear facility operations to ensure design, construction, or operation practices that comply with safety regulations, and safe operational principles.
  • Develop and write sophisticated procedures for the modification and operation of facility, equipment, and processes.
  • Direct operating or maintenance activities of nuclear facility to ensure safety standards are met.
  • Determine optimum configuration for experiments and perform analysis to demonstrate compliance with safety limits.
  • Develop, ensure adequacy of, and maintain configuration management and the technical baseline of multiple systems and component groups.
  • Perform ATR core load verifications.
  • Support facility operations, maintenance personnel, and project personnel to ensure assigned process systems and equipment are operated, maintained, and modified to meet operational and research needs within the system applicable baseline, and applicable standards.
  • Establish experiment insertion and removal documentation. Document experiment requirements and operating information. Support design reviews for various experiments and experiment loops.

 

Required: 

  • Level 2: Bachelor's degree in Engineering and 2 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree in Engineering. All degrees must be from a program accredited by ABET. 
  • Level 3: Bachelor's degree in Engineering and 5 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree in Engineering and 2 years of experience. All degrees must be from a program accredited by ABET. 
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "L" clearance, which requires US Citizenship.

 

The Ideal Candidate Will Possess: 

  • National Laboratory engineering experience.
  • Nuclear Safety experience.
  • Familiarity with ATR experiment processes.


 

Job Information:

  • The pay range for this position is: Level 2 ($79,344 - $162,732) / Level 3 ($95,256 - $195,288). At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.

     

  • Multi-Level: This is a multi-level posting and you will be placed at the appropriate level dependent on depth and breadth of proven experience and skills.
  • TDP: This is a testing designated position; you will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of your employment.

 

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this classification, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, bend, and work in an office and field/laboratory environment. The job requires hand/finger dexterity to keyboard or type, handle materials, manipulate tools, and reach with hands and arms. The job requires operation of job-related equipment and driving a vehicle. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds without assistance. Sufficient visual acuity and hearing capacity to perform the essential functions and interact with the public is required.
