Overview:

Sentara Health is seeking to hire a qualified individual to join our team as a Patient Monitoring Technician.

This position is on-site in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Position Status: Full-time, days

Position Location: Sentara Independence - Virginia Beach, VA

Standard Working Hours: 7:00AM - 7:00PM, rotating weekends and holidays

Overview

The on-site Patient Monitoring Technician will primarily function as remote monitoring for patients requiring continuous observation. The Technician’s responsibility is to observe and report high risk behaviors that may interrupt medically necessary therapies as well as patient safety and/or perceived changes in the patient’s condition to appropriate health care team members. Responsible for documenting the observed behaviors and need for redirection. The Technician will function under the direction of the Program Manager and/or Team Coordinator. Focused on promoting positive patient experience by partnering with the patient’s family, and other care providers to provide an excellent patient experience. Will perform under stressful conditions with compassion, respect to ensure patient privacy and dignity as appropriate.

Competencies/Job Duties:

  • Demonstrates understanding and proficiency with the Remote Patient Monitoring Software System

  • Maintains visual observation of assigned patients at all times.  Immediately summons the nursing staff if the patient requires assistance.

  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skill necessary to provide appropriate observation of the patient population assigned.

  • Participates in reports with on-coming and departing staff members.  Reviews pertinent information and behaviors.

  • Provides patients with explanations as necessary but does not counsel or provide opinions or judgment.

  • Provides on-site staff with information in a timely fashion when the patient appears to pose a threat to themselves or others.  Participates in the collaborative identification and reporting of patient safety issues.  Assures patient environment is safe.  Seeks assistance with the removal of any potential safety hazards from the room and reports findings to the appropriate staff members. 

  • Maintains patient dignity and privacy

  • Demonstrates safe workplace practices and attitudes, follows safety rules, works to prevent unsafe conditions and behavior, and participates in organizational and department safety programs. 

  • Works collaboratively and professionally with all other healthcare staff and providers, patients, and patient’s family members to ensure an excellent patient experience.

  • Responsible to document in patient EMR at a regular cadence per department policies/procedures.

  • High school diploma or equivalent Required

Certification/Licensure

  • No specific certification or licensure requirements

Experience

  • 1 year of healthcare experience Preferred
