Powers & Sons — Job Description Construction Worker – Masonry
Indianapolis, IN | Full-Time | Reports to: Masonry Foreman / Site Superintendent
Position Summary
Powers & Sons is seeking a skilled and dependable Construction Worker – Masonry to join our field operations team in Indianapolis, Indiana. In this role, you will be responsible for laying and binding building materials such as brick, block, and stone to construct and repair walls, foundations, partitions, and other structures. You will work alongside experienced crews to deliver high-quality craftsmanship on projects throughout the greater Indianapolis area.
Key Responsibilities
- Lay brick, concrete block, and natural or artificial stone in mortar to construct or repair structures including walls, walkways, retaining walls, chimneys, and foundations
- Mix mortar and grout to proper consistency using hand tools and mechanical mixers
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine layout and material requirements
- Cut and trim masonry units using hand tools, power saws, and grinders to fit around openings and corners
- Set up and work safely from scaffolding, ladders, and elevated platforms
- Inspect completed work to ensure it meets project specifications, plumb lines, and quality standards
- Maintain a clean and safe work site in compliance with OSHA standards and company safety policies
- Coordinate with foremen, superintendents, and other trades to maintain project schedules
- Load, unload, and transport materials and tools to and from work areas
- Perform routine maintenance on tools and equipment
Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of experience in masonry, bricklaying, or a closely related construction trade
- Proficiency with hand and power tools common to masonry work
- Ability to read basic blueprints and follow written and verbal instructions
- Knowledge of OSHA safety standards and willingness to adhere to all site safety requirements
- Physically able to lift up to 80 lbs., stand, kneel, bend, and work in varying weather conditions for extended periods
- Reliable transportation to job sites in and around Indianapolis
- Valid driver's license preferred
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with tuckpointing, restoration masonry, or decorative stonework
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
