The Director of Design & Construction provides strategic leadership for IU Health’s capital project portfolio, partnering with Regional Directors to plan, deliver, and execute complex healthcare construction initiatives valued at more than $600 million annually.

This role establishes and advances consistent standards for architectural design, mechanical systems, quality, cost management, regulatory compliance, and safety. The Director leads continuous improvement in project-delivery methods and works closely with IU Health senior leaders to guide projects ranging from $10 million to more than $100 million.

The ideal leader brings the ability to manage a large, diverse portfolio while proactively identifying and mitigating financial, operational, and safety risks. This individual will also represent IU Health with key external partners—including vendors, contractors, community leaders, and city and state officials—to build alignment and support successful project outcomes.

Candidate Qualifications

Candidates for the position will be evaluated according to the following criteria and competencies.

  • Bachelor's degree is required. Master's degree is preferred. 
  • 7-10 years relevant experience is required. 
  • Requires experience managing complex programs/projects. 
  • Requires knowledge of state and federal laws relative to the assigned area. 
  • Must have an understanding of the health care market, and can effectively apply this knowledge to the benefit of the System and stated Regional objectives as they apply to facility related projects and studies.
