Position Overview

Kauffman Eye Care is seeking a skilled and motivated Ophthalmic Technician to join our busy and growing ophthalmology practice on the east side of Indianapolis. This full-time position supports Dr. Chad Kauffman and plays an essential role in delivering high-quality patient care in a fast-paced clinical environment.

The Ophthalmic Technician assists the ophthalmologist by performing clinical testing, collecting patient data, administering treatments as directed, and ensuring efficient patient flow throughout the practice. Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:45 AM – 5:00 PM

Key Responsibilities

Patient Care & Clinical Testing:

Escort patients to exam rooms and prepare them for evaluation
Obtain comprehensive patient histories, including medical and ocular history
Explain procedures and testing to patients
Perform diagnostic testing including visual acuity, refraction, visual fields, tonometry, OCT, pachymetry, and photography
Assist physicians with laser and minor surgical procedures
Perform accurate documentation in the electronic health record
Perform scribing duties when needed

Patient Flow & Communication:

Assist with patient triage and workflow coordination
Answer patient calls regarding prescriptions and care questions -
Coordinate with physicians and staff to ensure efficient patient care

Equipment & Administrative Support:

Maintain and clean clinical equipment
Prepare exam rooms and testing equipment prior to clinic sessions
Monitor supply levels and assist with inventory management
Confirm patient appointments and assist with recall systems
Cross-train to assist with front desk duties as needed

Qualifications

Required:

High school diploma or equivalent
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities
Strong attention to detail
Computer proficiency and ability to work in electronic medical records
Professional demeanor and team-oriented attitude

Preferred:

2–5 years of ophthalmic technician experience
Certification (COA, COT, or equivalent), or willingness to pursue certification
