PurposeĀ 

This position is responsible for the daily production and overall performance of the Specialty Testing Team, as well as Specialty Testing samples from all other POLARIS facilities. This includes directing and monitoring quality and safety activities to ensure compliance with ISO 17025, the POLARIS Quality System and all required safety regulations. Ā 

Qualifications & RequirementsĀ 

  • Minimum Bachelors degree in a scientific discipline, chemistry preferredĀ 
  • Prior supervisor experienceĀ 
  • Experience operating in a laboratory environmentĀ 
  • Experience in a production environmentĀ Ā 
  • Demonstrated leadership skillsĀ 
  • Demonstrated ability to manage staffĀ 
  • Ability to understand and adhere to safety proceduresĀ 
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlinesĀ 
  • Ability to multi-taskĀ 
  • Computer literateĀ 
  • Basic mathematics skillsĀ 
  • Able to lift or move up to 50 lbs.Ā Ā 
  • Detail orientedĀ 
  • Ability to distinguish colors and odorsĀ 
  • Ability to work with potential exposure to hazardous petroleum or chemical productsĀ 

Essential FunctionsĀ 

  • Administer disciplinary actions - record and deliver disciplinary actions as neededĀ Ā 
  • Approve requests for time offĀ 
  • Approves overtimeĀ 
  • Ensure staff is adequately trained to perform assigned dutiesĀ 
  • Ensure staff is adhering to all policies and procedures as defined by the POLARIS Quality SystemĀ 
  • Ensure that staff is adhering to and following all company policies and safety proceduresĀ 
  • Facilitate a ā€œteam environmentā€Ā 
  • Monitor available time-off for staff to ensure adequate coverage for workloadĀ Ā 
  • Participates in interviews for potential hiresĀ 
  • Track employee attendanceĀ 
  • Train and audit new and existing lab personnelĀ 
  • Train and develop needs of staffĀ 
  • Write and deliver employee reviews for staffĀ 
  • Perform sample analysis as neededĀ 
  • Assist in safety training and ensure complianceĀ 
  • Audit production for accuracyĀ 
  • Become knowledgeable of and adhere to all requirements of the POLARIS Quality SystemĀ 
  • Ensure all equipment is calibrated and operating within acceptable guidelines as per Quality SystemĀ 
  • Ensure a compliant and safe work environmentĀ 
  • Ensure production timelines are metĀ 
  • Inspect, maintain and repair laboratory equipmentĀ 
  • Manage inventory of consumable materialsĀ 
  • Manage and review production reportsĀ 
  • Manage end of shift, end of month, and safety checklistsĀ 
  • Manage and review QC documentationĀ 
  • Manage hazardous waste/used oil pick up as neededĀ 
  • Monitor quality of test resultsĀ 
  • Observe and read instrumentation to determine operating conditions during testingĀ 
  • Plan schedules and work flowĀ 
  • Responsible for turnaround time, outsourcing and reporting at daily communication meetingĀ 
  • Review daily production report and statusĀ 
  • Routine review of testing performedĀ 
  • Routine review of documents generated in laboratoryĀ 
  • Routine review of maintenance records of equipmentĀ 
  • Limited lab equipment maintenance and repair to ensure proper equipment functionĀ 
  • Supervise lab employees and facilitate productionĀ 
  • Other duties as assigned by ManagementĀ

Safety Requirements Ā 

  • OSHA laws require the use of the following Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when performing work duties that have the potential of risk to your health or safety. At POLARIS Laboratories, when going through the Laboratory it is required that you wear eye protection.Ā 
  • Team members will be trained in the proper use and care of assigned PPE. POLARIS Laboratories provides the required PPE. It is your responsibility to report defective, damaged or lost PPE, or equipment that does not fit properly, to your Manager.Ā 
  • To ensure safety throughout the facility, all employees are required to maintain up to date HAZMAT, OSHA, RCRA, Methylene Chloride, and General Laboratory Safety training as defined within the POLARIS Quality System. Ā
