Position Summary:
As the Technical Lead of Systems Engineering, Validation and Verification for T56/501K and Helicopters Programs, you will support the T56/501K and Helicopters Engineering Leadership Team (ELT) and be responsible for leading and managing a functional team of diverse systems and development engineers to deliver engineering solutions to scope, cost, schedule and quality for both programs.
What you will be doing:
- Lead and manage a diverse team comprised of system design engineers, systems engineers, customer facing application engineers, technical project engineers, validation & verification engineers, configuration management engineers, performance & control system engineers to effectively and efficiently:
- Define and execute the technical program of work that delivers solutions to resolve product or process problems or improve product capability, at all levels of product definition, that satisfies all the product and project requirements, and is compliant to Rolls-Royce Management System
- Develop requirements, workscope, and technical program of work (cost & schedule) for new applications and installations, including who engine certification/qualification
- Provide application specific technical support to customer arisings
- Initiate and execute the change management process (PCB, DTA, AEMs, etc)
- Execute Technical Risk Management, EVMS, and Project Gated Review Processes for the program of work required to deliver business objectives
- Represent engine programs at customer program reviews, technical integration meetings, and airworthiness/certification authorities
- Manage workload, prioritization, resource allocation, and the budget associated with those resources for the combined T56/Helo SEVV team and ensure work is performed to the appropriate technical standards/processes, to the required time frames
- Develop and execute outsourced work packages as required to resource the business
- Provide technical leadership, guidance, coaching and mentoring to assigned engineers to enable them to be their best
- Hire and ensure effective performance management of assigned Engineers by setting/agreeing appropriate and relevant objectives, performing evaluations and appraisals (e.g. PDRs), and participating in the distribution of merit increases and bonus awards
- Work with the core function Capability Leads to identify training, skills gaps or competency needs with the team and provide skill development opportunities
- On behalf of the Chief Engineer, work with other Tech Leads (including the MRB and MVA teams) to ensure Dept 3853 engineering load and and capacity are consistent with program budgets and priorities and manage the load/cap process.
- Develop, deliver, and demonstrate engineering performance metrics, including commitment to continuous improvement
- Represent the Program Chief Project Engineers or Chief Design Engineer – Functional as required or requested (e.g. PCB, customer reviews, TIMs, etc.)
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree Engineering and 5+ years of experience or
- Master’s degree in Engineering and 3+ years of experience
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident to be eligible for consideration
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with 10+ years of related experience, OR
- A Master’s degree in Engineering with 7+ years experience, OR
- JD/PhD in Engineering with 5+ years experience
- At least 7 years or more experience in the technical management of projects/programs of increasing complexity, and EVMS proficiency
- Engineering experience in all stages of a project lifecycle and has been responsible for the delivery of one or more of those stages.
- Breadth of gas turbine engineering experience across engineering functions:Â design, performance, validation, verification, customer application, certification/qualification, maintenance & overhaul, repair, field service, etc.
- Experience in or working with multiple functions such as test operations, supply chain/procurement, contracts, etc.
- Experience executing new product introduction (NPI), design change, sub-system/whole engine system integration and risk management processes
- Experience in managing/leading/coaching people and teams to successful outcomes and customer satisfaction
- Experience in developing and managing outsourced work package performance
- Experience in understanding and managing customer and senior management expectations.
- Ability to deal with ambiguity, take decisions and make recommendations with minimal data.
- Ability to quickly understand the key technical issues in potentially complex technical problems on unfamiliar subjects and to communicate simply
- Knowledge of key system engineering, design and  processes required to deliver product and service attributes
- Experience and knowledge of T56/501K product line and/or Helicopters product line, regulatory framework and customers
- Demonstrated ability to influence others through effective and positive engagement and communication on technical and business issues.
