POSITION SUMMARY 

Butler, Fairman and Seufert (BF&S) is seeking an experienced Traffic Engineer/Project Manager to work out of any of our Indiana office locations – Indianapolis, Lafayette, Merrillville, Evansville, Plainfield, Jeffersonville or Fort Wayne. The Traffic Engineer/Project Manager is responsible for performing engineering and management duties on a wide array of traffic engineering projects to increase our traffic services’ efforts pursuant to the objectives of the company. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

Responsibilities 

  • Serve as the main point of contact with clients on projects, providing status reports, leading communication and coordination efforts, etc.
  • Provide Traffic Engineering forecasting and analysis using a variety of software programs including Synchro, SimTraffic, HCS, and Sidra
  • Provide design directives and manage project tasks for Federal Aid, INDOT, and/or local projects from a project’s notice to proceed through post letting services
  • Assist with developing and managing project scope, schedule, and budgets for new projects
  • Work closely with and mentor young engineers
  • Coordinate with support departments and sub-consultants for all project elements
  • Review and approve design calculations
  • Write and review Traffic Impact Studies, Safety Analysis Reports, Capacity and Operations Reports, and Engineer’s Reports.
  • Perform Traffic Signal Design, Lighting Design, and complex Signage Design on local and INDOT projects.


Management of Company Objectives 

  • Serves as a mentor in our mentoring program
  • Coordinates with other Road Department Managers to address expertise needs
  • Assures compliance with QA/QC protocol 
  • Assures compliance with Safety protocol 
  • Assure compliance with Status Reporting protocol 


EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE 

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in Engineering. Must possess Professional Engineer (P.E.) licensed in the State of Indiana or the ability to obtain one within six months
  • Seven or more years relevant work experience in the fields of traffic forecasting, safety, capacity, operations analysis, and traffic design elements
  • PTOE certification preferred or the desire to receive certification within 2 years of employment.
  • RSP(any level) certification preferred
  • Experience in traffic data collection and preparing traffic studies, traffic impact studies, signal warrant analyses, thoroughfare plans, access management plans, safety studies, traffic modeling and simulation, signal design, signage design, and lighting design
  • Working knowledge of MS Office, AutoCAD, and Civil 3D and/or MicroStation
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work on multiple tasks at one time.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate needs to clients and staff


WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 

  • Work independently with minimal supervision both remotely and at the office while collaborating with other team members both locally and in remote offices.
  • Occasionally perform onsite inspections that require moderate physical exertion
  • Occasional travel throughout the state of Indiana for meetings or onsite inspections
  • Work outside of normal business hours if required for meetings
