Description

Detailed. Diligent. Determined. The Janitorial Staff works to ensure that Shelter House’s facilities are maintained to a standard of cleanliness, safety, and sanitation in accordance with OSHA standards.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Always maintain a safe and sanitary environment.
  • Daily cleaning of the facility is performed on time and to standards. 
  • Dusting all surfaces, sweeping floors, cleaning and sanitizing of bathrooms, common areas, offices, laundry areas etc.
  • Conduct a variety of heavy cleaning duties utilizing commercial cleaning appliances and appropriate cleaning products in both the interior and exterior of the facility, including washing walls, chairs, and tables.
  • Maintain exterior waste removal spaces.
  • House laundry is done using appropriate supplies when necessary. 
  • Regular heavy cleaning is done according to established daily, weekly, and monthly schedules in all interior and exterior spaces. 
  • Complete cleaning duties with appropriate tools, including commercial carpet steamers, mops, brooms, dust pans, mop buckets, and supplied cleaning products.
  • Exterior grounds are kept safe and in clean condition. Shoveling, slating sidewalks, trimming, mowing, and performing other exterior grounds maintenance as needed.
  • Ensure immediate removal of any biohazardous waste and follow all appropriate standards using Personal Protective Equipment. Communicate the presence of biohazards to appropriate staff.
  • Coordinate the requisition and storing of cleaning supplies, maintenance equipment, and items associated with facility upkeep.
  • Maintain all cleaning supplies, equipment, and janitorial storage spaces in a clean organized manner in accordance with OSHA regulations.
  • Manage the usage of cleaning supplies and equipment appropriately and effectively for each task. 
  • Work closely with Property Manager, Facilities Manager, Shelter Coordinators, and other Janitorial staff to meet other cleaning/maintenance and agency-wide goals. Complete all assigned training courses and obtain and maintain any required certifications.
  • Interact with Facility/Shelter Managers and other janitorial staff to accomplish department goals and projects in a positive, professional, team setting. 
  • Attend a scheduled weekly meeting with Property Manager. 
  • All other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or GED. Custodial or janitorial experience preferred.


Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of standing and walking around.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
