The Maintenance Planner collaborates with Operations and Maintenance staff to develop plans for reactive, corrective, preventive, and predictive maintenance as well as determine planning and execution priorities.  Develops detailed mechanical or electrical work plans using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS). This position is not eligible for University sponsorship for employment authorization.

Duties to Include:

  • Provide feedback or input to work order backlog reviews on general trends or potential focus areas to improve safety, operations/reliability and/or efficiency.

  • Provide work order updates in CMMS as required to ensure work orders are planned with materials onsite/kitted prior to scheduling for execution.

  • Collaborate with Operations staff to increase the amount of planned work and reduce the amount of reactive work. 

  • Generate, update, or modify preventive and predictive maintenance plans in the CMMS system to ensure timely completion and documentation.

Location: Dental Science Building (DSB)

Schedule: Monday through Friday, will establish working schedule to start between 6 AM to 7:30 AM with a half hour lunch break

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.

  • Professional experience (typically 1-3 years) in maintenance planning.

  • Demonstrated proficiency with computer software applications including Microsoft Office (e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook, and email), and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems.
  • Continuous improvement attitude, the ability to suggest and implement best practices, and demonstrable cognizance of conceptual thinking skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives at all levels of the organization.

 Desired Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge in building systems.

  • Familiarity with University of Iowa maintenance concepts, practices and terminology.
  • Maintenance or reliability certifications.
  • Familiarity with general and maintenance specific safety regulations and practices.
  • Experience working within AssetWorks AiM (computerized maintenance management system).
  • Ability to read and comprehend construction documents.
