About the Job
We are seeking a motivated Project Design Engineer - Mechanical with 3–5 years of experience in mechanical design engineering within building services to join our Engineering Studio — a collaborative pool of engineers supporting multiple projects across the business. The Engineering Studio sits at the heart of our technical delivery, providing expertise across data centres, industrial, energy, pharmaceutical, and commercial sectors.
As a Project Design Engineer, you will play a key role in the delivery of high-quality mechanical design solutions across building services projects including commercial, healthcare, and mission-critical environments. Operating under limited supervision, you will take ownership of defined project tasks and lead smaller projects from concept through to completion.
Responsibilities:
Oversee specific elements of design work and coordinate with other disciplines; may supervise junior staff on assigned tasks.
Champion quality assurance (QA) across projects, performing audits and promoting compliance with internal QA systems.
Manage and maintain the project mechanical design file and contribute to the evolution of mechanical design standards.
Take technical ownership of mechanical systems throughout the full project lifecycle — from concept design to commissioning and handover.
Ensure continuous quality control of design and installation, aligning with CIBSE, ASHRAE, BS, IS, and EN standards.
Develop detailed mechanical specifications, tender packages, and reports, including value engineering analysis and client recommendations.
Liaise proactively with clients, contractors, and suppliers to resolve technical challenges during project delivery.
Support and mentor junior engineers, contributing to their professional development and team growth.
Promote a positive and proactive message internally and externally through consistent communication and behaviour.
About You
Technical Skills
Proficient in mechanical building services design, including HVAC, water systems, and fire protection.
Competent in design documentation and coordination using tools such as:
- Microsoft Office Suite
- AutoCAD and Revit MEP
- Bluebeam for drawing review and mark-up
- Familiarity with mechanical analysis software (e.g. Hevacomp, IES, or similar) is an advantage.
In-depth knowledge of applicable standards: CIBSE, ASHRAE, BS, IS, and EN.
Strong understanding of lifecycle design documentation, QA systems, and project file management.
Experience & Qualifications
Typically 3–5 years of experience in mechanical design engineering within building services consultancy.
Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering (or equivalent).
Working towards Chartered Engineer status (CEng) with Engineers Ireland or equivalent.
Experience managing or mentoring junior engineers is desirable.
Demonstrated ability to manage competing deadlines and multiple tasks efficiently.
