Our established Community Development traffic/transportation engineering group is seeking an experienced Engineer to support the completion of development and infrastructure projects for various private and public clients. In this role, you provide or supervise traffic analysis, identify and contribute to the development of preliminary engineering solutions, final design and construction drawings, provide construction support, and closeout services for development and improvement projects. Your Opportunity 

The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in traffic/transportation engineering and will support the Community Development Leaders as well as project managers from other Stantec disciplines across the western U.S. As an Intermediate Traffic/Transportation Engineer, you will be responsible for 

  • Defining project scope  
  • Writing technical traffic impact reports and design memorandums  
  • Preparing design calculations and exhibits  
  • Evaluating alternative solutions to meet the project needs  
  • Preparing technical studies and construction documents 
  • Maintaining the project schedule, and budgets  
  • Supporting quality management processes  
  • Working with clients and stakeholders to effectively manage engineering tasks and deliverables, with a strong emphasis on quality, communication, and collaboration 

Your Key Responsibilities 

The Community Development Intermediate Traffic/Transportation Engineer will collaborate closely with other Community Development teams to prepare engineering deliverables such as design drawings, quantity calculations and cost estimates, construction specifications, and engineering reports to internal and external clients.  

  • Assist with developing and managing the project scope, budget, and schedule. 
  • Perform technical tasks on projects under the supervision of the Project Manager or Project Engineer. 
  • Collect and analyse data to perform calculations that support civil and transportation system design decisions and development process. 
  • Interpret and verify compliance with applicable codes and engineering standards and practices. 
  • Prepare plans and design calculations for traffic and transportation related improvements.  
  • Assisting with the preparation of traffic impact reports and other technical studies, preparing design calculations, and evaluating alternative solutions to meet project needs. 
  • Participate in coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants, owner and contractor, subcontractors, and vendors. 
  • Coordination and communication with other engineers/consultants, agency staff, client representatives, and/or other team members. Coordinate with design teams, subconsultants and other project partners to ensure on time delivery, technical quality and within budget. 
  • Assist with processing preliminary plans and construction documents through various agencies to obtain approvals and construction permits. 
  • Assist with the preparation of project quantity and cost estimates. 
  • Assist with the preparation of Technical Specifications and Special Provision documents for bidding and construction. 
  • Perform field data collection and inventories.  
  • Perform field observation of completed improvements and prepare record documents.  
  • Follow safe work practices and adhere to Company guidelines and policies for planning and executing work in a safe manner. 
  • Assist in the review of shop drawings and submittals, respond to request for information, prepare site observation reports, and perform other contract administration tasks. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
