Role Summary:

The Business Development Principal – Nuclear will spearhead Flowserve’s growth in the North American nuclear power sector by leveraging deep expertise in the small modular reactor (SMR) and advanced reactor industry, along with a thorough understanding of the SMR development process. This leader will identify and secure new business opportunities, forge strategic partnerships, and deliver innovative, value-added solutions for clients. While familiarity with flow control technologies is helpful, success in this role is driven more by knowledge of the SMR ecosystem, its companies, and the development lifecycle.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive business development strategy for the SMR nuclear sector in North America, aligned with Flowserve’s global objectives.

  • Identify, research, and generate new business opportunities with a strong focus on SMR and advanced reactor developers, including a nuanced understanding of their project milestones and development pathways.

  • Build, maintain, and grow highvalue relationships with key customers/partners including reactor developers, nuclear power plant owners/operators, constructors (EPCs), and end users (utilities, industrial customers, data center customers, etc.).

  • Provide expert analysis and recommendations on SMR market trends, regulatory frameworks, and industry standards relevant to nuclear energy in the North America region.

  • Build, maintain, and grow relationships with key stakeholders including Federal and State government agencies and industry organizations.

  • Lead and coordinate complex project pursuits, working with multidisciplinary teams (sales, engineering, operations, legal, contracts, and commercial) to deliver tailored solutions.

  • Represent Flowserve at industry events, conferences, and trade shows, positioning the company as a thought leader in nuclear energy deployment.

  • Support proposal development, contract negotiations, and crosssector partnerships.

  • Collaborate with all company business divisions to enable growth for Flowserve products, technologies, and solutions across nuclear power applications.

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant safety, security, and regulatory requirements.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science or Engineering (Nuclear, Mechanical, Electrical, or related field) or equivalent experience in the nuclear industry.

  • Deep understanding of nuclear technologies, with a particular emphasis on SMRs and advanced reactors—including the SMR development process, project lifecycle, and market dynamics in the North America region.

  • Knowledge of applicable government and industry regulations and quality assurance standards.

  • Knowledge of or experience with nuclear power plant procurement processes.

  • Excellent written, verbal, and PowerPoint communication skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and CRM tools (e.g., Salesforce).

  • Willingness to travel extensively across the North America region (up to 50%).

Preferred:

  • 10+ years of experience in business development or sales within the power generation sector, with 5+ years of experience in the nuclear industry.

  • Demonstrated success in developing and closing largescale contracts and managing complex, multistakeholder projects.

  • Strong commercial acumen, negotiation skills, and experience with long sales cycles.

  • Working knowledge of flow control technologies (pumps, valves) and their role in nuclear applications.

  • Experience with nuclear power technologies and infrastructure projects, especially those involving SMR developers or advanced reactor initiatives.

  • Experience working in a highly collaborative, matrixed organization.

  • Goal oriented, positive mindset, and strong team leadership skills.

The pay range for this role is $197,199.80 - $295,738.72 per year.
