Job Summary:
 The Quality Assurance (QA) Lead provides day-to-day leadership to QA personnel within the Inserting department while actively performing audits and inspections to ensure zero-defect output that meets PCI and client specifications. This working-lead role assigns QA coverage, supports live production needs, troubleshoots quality issues in real time, and serves as the primary QA point of contact to operations leadership. The QA Lead coordinates corrective actions, standardizes practices across shifts, and supports audit readiness and continuous improvement initiatives.

 

Some General Duties/Responsibilities:

Quality Auditing & Inspection

  • Perform audits and visual inspections to ensure printed and inserted materials meet quality and customer specifications.
  • Perform audits and inspections of printed and inserted materials.
  • Review job tickets and verify materials, taglines, and sequence numbers.
  • Approve first pieces and respond to machine quality lights.
  • Halt production for defects such as blurry/missing/duplicate print, missing inserts/pages, or incorrect addresses.
  • Tag and isolate non-conforming material using red HOLD forms.
  • Record hand-stuff counts, damaged values, and diverted packages.

 

Leadership, Coverage & Daily Coordination

  • Float throughout the department to support auditing, escalations, and machine-related quality questions.
  • Monitor quality and productivity and escalate risks.
  • Serve as the QA point of contact for operations leadership.
  • Serves as the QA point of contact for the NC facility.
  • Provide input and support in resolving issues identified during internal investigations resulting from CARs and failed audits.
  • Participate in daily production meetings to communicate quality risks and priorities.

 

Process Control, CARs & Compliance

  • Complete and follow up on Corrective Action Reports.
  • Support internal and external audit readiness.
  • Ensure compliance with current and future security requirements.

 

Training, Standardization & Cross-Shift Consistency

  • Train new QA staff and provide coaching.
  • Conduct audits of auditors and promote consistency across shifts.
  • Collaborate with supervisors on hold and production issues.

 

Continuous Improvement (Lean/Six Sigma)

  • Support and lead Lean projects, error-proofing, and process improvements.
  • Track and communication improvement progress.

Education/Experience:                                                                                                                                                                                 

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.; a vocational or technical school diploma or certificate in a related field is preferred.
