Webber, a Ferrovial company, is a leading construction and infrastructure development firm committed to delivering high-quality transportation projects across North America. We are seeking an experienced Paving Superintendent to lead asphalt paving operations and ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and within budget.

Summary

The Paving Superintendent is responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising all aspects of asphalt paving operations on roadway, highway, airport, municipal, and commercial construction projects. This role oversees field personnel, subcontractors, equipment, materials, quality control, production rates, and safety compliance while ensuring project objectives are achieved.

The Paving Superintendent works closely with Project Managers, Foremen, Estimators, Quality Control personnel, and clients to successfully deliver projects that meet Webber's standards for safety, quality, and operational excellence.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Champion Webber's safety culture and ensure compliance with company policies, OSHA regulations, and project-specific safety requirements.

  • Plan, coordinate, and supervise daily paving operations, including asphalt placement, milling, base preparation, tack application, and compaction activities.

  • Manage paving crews, foremen, operators, truck drivers, laborers, and subcontractors.

  • Coordinate manpower, equipment, trucking logistics, and material deliveries to optimize production and minimize downtime.

  • Monitor project schedules and ensure paving operations are progressing according to established milestones.

  • Review project plans, specifications, and contract documents to ensure work is completed in accordance with requirements.

  • Oversee asphalt quality, density testing, grades, smoothness, and compliance with owner specifications.

  • Track daily production rates, costs, quantities, and project performance metrics.

  • Identify and resolve field issues related to equipment, productivity, staffing, quality, and scheduling.

  • Coordinate with asphalt plants to ensure proper mix design availability and delivery schedules.

  • Monitor equipment utilization and collaborate with maintenance personnel to reduce downtime.

  • Lead daily pre-task planning meetings and safety briefings.

  • Maintain accurate project documentation including daily reports, production records, safety observations, and quantity tracking.

  • Interface professionally with owners, inspectors, consultants, subcontractors, and other stakeholders.

  • Support project closeout activities and ensure punch-list items are completed promptly

 

Who You Are: A Profile of Success

  • High School Diploma or GED required.

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred.

  • Minimum of 8-10 years of roadway construction experience with at least 5 years in asphalt paving supervision.

  • Extensive knowledge of asphalt paving methods, materials, equipment, and production processes.

  • Experience managing TxDOT, municipal, county, airport, or other public infrastructure paving projects preferred.

  • Strong understanding of roadway construction specifications, grading, drainage, and traffic control.

  • Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, schedules, and contract documents.

  • Experience managing multiple crews and coordinating subcontractors.

  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and construction management software.

  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel as required.

  • Thorough understanding of asphalt laydown and compaction procedures.

  • Knowledge of paving equipment includes pavers, rollers, milling machines, broom tractors, distributors, and material transfer vehicles.

  • Ability to manage production goals while maintaining safety and quality standards.

  • Strong organizational and scheduling capabilities.

  • Knowledge of cost control principles and production tracking.

  • Ability to foster teamwork and maintain positive working relationships.

  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred. 

  • Work is performed primarily outdoors on active construction sites.

  • Frequent exposure to heat, dust, noise, traffic, and changing weather conditions.

  • Ability to walk uneven terrain, climb equipment, and navigate construction sites safely.

  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.

  • Must be available to work extended hours, weekends, nights, and varying shifts as project demands require
