The IT Storage Engineer III provides tier 3 support of all Information Technology (IT) incidents and requests for Hackensack Meridian Health (HMH) storage. Primary duties include tier 3 support and problem resolution, documentation, and resolution; problem analysis; project task fulfillment, management and engineering of enterprise storage systems.

Responsibilities

A day in the life of an IT Storage Engineer III with Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

  •  Storage Technical Expertise:
    •  Plans the development and execution of educator/trainer courses of core system/application functionality. Provides facilitation and coordination of training plans for other IT areas.
    •  Allocates storage by maintaining fabric manager definitions and zoning, and host and LUN definitions in SAN and storage device managers. Monitor SAN usage using tools. Gathers information for storage and backup metrics from related software. Analyzes usage of the SAN devices and balances the distribution of allocations based on tiered storage standards. Documents the processes for cabling switches and storage devices. Researches storage trends for the healthcare industry.
    •  Makes recommendations on storage device directions for adjusting tiered storage standards. Participates in disaster recovery setup and tests for enterprise systems.
    •  Defines hosts to the backup system and demonstrates understanding of schedules as they relate to database backup utilities. Sets up storage pools for recovery of servers; restores data to servers using backup and recovery media. Maintains the backup and recovery system software; applies updates to backup software and allocates storage and devices for efficient operation of backup and recovery system software.
    •  Coordinates and manages vendor resources in the implementation of new software, and/or application upgrades and enhancements and technology roadmaps.
    •  As appropriate for service line technology, monitors and tests the ongoing production performance to assure appropriate operations in terms of response time and storage capacity. Monitors customer utilization of technology to determine if application features are being used appropriately. Recommends operational changes as appropriate. Proactively identifies the need to upgrade the supporting infrastructure.
    •  Analyzes usage of SAN devices and balances the distribution of allocations based on tiered storage standards. Documents the processes for cabling switches and storage devices. Defines hosts to the backup system and demonstrates understanding of schedules as they relate to database backup utilities. Sets up storage pools for recovery of servers; restores data to servers using backup and recovery media.
  •  Customer Service and Departmental Goals:
    •  Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives.
    •  Adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety standards. c. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
    •  Triages incidents and requests; resolves or routes to appropriate person or department.
    •  Demonstrates critical thinking skills related to investigating and resolving customer concerns.
    •  Builds positive relationships with managers and staff in all areas.
    •  Provides a satisfying customer experience by interacting in a kind and pleasant manner.
    •  Prioritizes and responds promptly based on severity levels to needs of the customer.
    •  Proactively or timely recognizes opportunities for service recovery and acts to resolve issues.
  •  Top Project Priorities Milestones:
    •  Complete job assignments for IT Governance projects and IT projects to ensure achievement of established project milestones.
    •  Demonstrates practical knowledge of project management principles and tools.
    •  Adheres to established HMH PMO project methodologies.
  •  Professional and Behavioral Standards:
    •  Consistently live out the commitment to the HMH tenets of service excellence - Customer Centered; Service Focused; Quality Driven; Resource Wise; and Growth Oriented.
    •  As illustrated in daily interactions with staff, faculty, physicians, patients and their families and others outside of HMH.

    •  Constantly monitor the work environment for opportunities for improvement and implement improvement initiatives. Help prepare operating, capital and project budgets in support of the IT financial workflow.
  •  Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
  •  Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  •  Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field of study, and/or applicable technical certificate and/or equivalent related experience.
  •  Minimum of 5 or more years of experience in Storage and Backup engineering.
  •  Prior experience with enterprise storage support and computing hardware.
  •  Demonstrated knowledge of computing software.
  •  Excellent troubleshooting skills and independent thinking.
  •  Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

  •  Prior experience Pure storage, NetApp NAS, DellEMC Powermax, and Isilon.
  •  Prior experience with Rubrik backup solutions.
  •  Cloud computing and storage.

Licenses and Certifications Preferred:

  • ITIL Foundation; SNIA SCSA Certified Storage Engineer.

Starting Minimum Rate

Minimum rate of $113,609.60 Annually

Budget and Grant Funding: Departmental budgets and any grant funding associated with the job position may impact the pay that can be offered. Some jobs may also be eligible for performance-based incentives, bonuses, or commissions not reflected in the starting rate. Certain positions may also be eligible for shift differentials for work performed on evening, night, or weekend shifts.
