Description

Boater’s World Marine Centers in Islamorada, FL is seeking a motivated and reliable Outboard Marine Technician to join our Service Department.


This is a hands-on role focused on the service, maintenance, and repair of outboard engines and marine systems. The technician will support daily shop operations, ensuring boats are properly serviced and ready for customer use.


This position is ideal for someone with mechanical experience who takes pride in their work and is looking to grow within a fast-paced marine dealership environment.


1. Service & Maintenance

  • Perform routine maintenance including oil changes, inspections, and system checks.
  • Complete general repairs on outboard engines and marine systems.
  • Assist with diagnosing basic mechanical and electrical issues.
  • Ensure all work is completed according to manufacturer standards.

2. Repair & Shop Support

  • Assist with engine repairs, rigging, and component replacement.
  • Support installation of marine accessories and basic electrical components.
  • Work alongside senior technicians on more complex repair jobs as needed.
  • Maintain steady productivity and efficiency in daily shop operations.

3. Documentation & Systems

  • Document all service work performed in Lightspeed (Dealer Management System).
  • Accurately track parts usage and repair details.
  • Follow dealership processes for repair orders and service documentation.

4. Work Environment & Team Support

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safety-focused work area.
  • Communicate with Service Advisors regarding job status and additional work needs.
  • Assist with staging boats for service, testing, and delivery.
  • Support overall shop workflow and team productivity.

Requirements

 

  • Previous experience in marine, automotive, or mechanical repair preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of outboard engines (Mercury, Yamaha, Suzuki a plus).
  • Understanding of 12V electrical systems is a plus.
  • Ability to follow service manuals and technical instructions.
  • Strong work ethic and willingness to learn and grow.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Work Expectations 

  • Ability to work in both shop and outdoor environments.
  • Ability to lift and handle tools and equipment as needed.
  • Availability to work Saturdays based on business demand.
