What You’ll Own
As a Staff Tax Accountant, you’ll help clients stay compliant while uncovering smart planning opportunities. This role exists to deliver accurate, on-time tax work and clear guidance that strengthens long-term client relationships.
Key responsibilities:
- Prepare corporate, partnership, and individual tax returns with a high standard of accuracy
- Support tax planning and targeted research to reduce liabilities where appropriate
- Coordinate with clients to obtain documentation, answer questions, and explain tax items clearly
- Monitor tax law updates and apply changes to filings and planning approaches
- Assist with notices and other tax authority inquiries
- Help refine tax workflows to improve consistency, quality, and efficiency
Required qualifications/skills:
- 2+ years in public accounting tax preparation and planning
- Intermediate knowledge of corporate/partnership/individual tax rules
- Bachelor’s or Master’s in Accounting/Finance (CPA a plus)
- Proficiency with tax software (UltraTax/Lacerte, CCH Axcess), accounting systems, and advanced Excel
- Strong analysis, communication, and deadline management

A Typical Day
You’ll start your morning prioritizing deadlines and mapping out the day’s deliverables, then shift between focused return work and quick check-ins to keep open items moving. Expect blocks of uninterrupted time for technical review and research, balanced with client touchpoints to clarify documents and walk through questions in plain language.
You’ll collaborate closely with senior team members to confirm positions and keep workpapers clean and audit-ready, using your tax and accounting systems to stay organized. During peak tax season, the pace increases and hours extend to meet firm commitments; in the summer, the schedule lightens with half-day Fridays. Throughout the day, you’ll track progress, adjust for new information, and wrap up by teeing up next steps for tomorrow.
