Position Summary
The Anesthesia Technician is responsible for providing technical support to anesthesiologists and the surgical team by preparing, maintaining, and troubleshooting anesthesia equipment and supplies. This role assists with invasive and noninvasive procedures, ensures that anesthesia supplies are properly stocked and maintained, and collaborates with Biomedical Engineering, Nursing, and Anesthesia teams to support safe and efficient patient care. The Anesthesia Technician plays a critical role in maintaining readiness of anesthesia services in the operating room environment.
Schedule: 10 hour shifts 36-40 hours per week. Including occasional Saturdays.Ā
Key Duties and Responsibilities
The key duties and responsibilities of the Anesthesia Technician include, but are not limited to:
- Assist anesthesiologists with placement of patient monitoring lines, difficult intubations, and other invasive or noninvasive procedures as appropriate.
- Prepare, set up, and test anesthesia machines and related equipment prior to surgical procedures.
- Perform first-line equipment maintenance, calibrations, and troubleshooting.
- Maintain, order, and stock anesthesia supplies and medications, ensuring availability and compliance with expiration dates.
- Clean, disinfect, and properly store anesthesia equipment and instruments following established protocols.
- Collaborate with the OR Manager, Charge RN, Anesthesia, and Biomedical Engineering to ensure safe and efficient operation of all anesthesia-related equipment.
- Maintain accurate records of equipment maintenance, usage, and inventory.
- Follow established policies, procedures, and safety protocols to support quality patient care.
- Cleaning and OR turnover
- Assist with emergency situations in the operating room as directed by the anesthesiologist or OR team.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Education/Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associateās degree in healthcare or related field preferred.
- Certified Anesthesia Technician (or must obtain certification within 6 months of hire).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Previous experience in a Level I Trauma Center or high-volume operating room preferred.
- Experience using medical computer software systems.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work quickly, accurately, and calmly in high-pressure environments.
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to read, write, and follow directions in English.
- Basic mathematical skills to perform calculations quickly and accurately.
- Working knowledge of anesthesia equipment, supplies, and safety standards.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with anesthesiologists, surgeons, nurses, and technical staff.
- Commitment to maintaining patient safety and supporting quality of care in the surgical setting.
