Job DetailsJob Location: ITASCA, IL 60143Salary Range: $17.00 - $23.37 HourlyPosition Focus:  Under the direction of the KLUB House Director and the Recreation Supervisor, a KLUB House counselor’s primary duty is to assist in the supervision and implementation of Itasca Park District Before and After School programs. Qualifications: •    Applicant must be 16 years or older.  •    Must have current First Aid, CPR and AED certification or training is provided by the park district.  •    Must possess the ability to plan, organize, supervise, and lead activities and programs. Required Knowledge: •    Must have the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing and be able to follow written and oral directions. •    Basic knowledge of planning, implementing, and leading youth activities, arts and crafts, games, field trips and other camp related activities. •    Good knowledge of emergency services available in the community when needed in emergency situations. •    Be able to work with the general population, including children, parents, and staff. Required Competencies: •    KLUB House Counselors must be able to work closely under the supervision of the KLUB House Director and the Recreation Supervisor.   •    KLUB House Counselors must be able to work with the general population, including children, parents and staff and be able to recognize and take appropriate action to correct safety hazards. •     Ability to communicate, present ideas and make recommendations orally, in writing and by telephone in a clear, concise manner. •      Capacity to plan, organize, prioritize, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously. •    Ability to demonstrate tact and strong interpersonal skills in maintaining positive, effective working relationships with all employees throughout the Park District. •     Ability to foster and work in a team atmosphere promoting positive and collaborative relationships. •    Must have the ability to read and write in English and organize materials.  •    Possess the ability to understand basic math functions to do payroll time sheet.  •    Must be able to supervise participants and have safety awareness. •    Capacity to plan, organize, prioritize, and handle multiple projects simultaneously. ·    Good knowledge of emergency protocols and ability to thrive in high stress and emergency situations.  ·    Capacity to be self-motivated and complete assigned work by using effective time management and organizational skills. ·    Ability to proactively trouble shoot, problem solve, and make sound judgments in keeping with the mission of the Park District. ·    Capacity to maintain self-control and composure in difficult and high stress situations. ·    Must have the ability to follow directions, read, communicate orally and write in English, present ideas and make recommendations in a clear concise manner. Hours: Hours may vary depending on the number of participants and KLUB House ratios. -    Before Care hours are estimated to be 6:45-8:45am.   -    After Care hours are estimated to be 3:15-6:15pm  -    Early release days scheduled 1:15-6:15pm  Essential Duties and Responsibilities: •    Responsible for the planning, organization, implementation, and supervision of Before and After Care activities. •    Assist the KLUB House Director and Recreation Supervisor in the organization and supervision of programs and projects as requested. •    Responsible for any equipment and material used in an activity. •    Work in cooperation with coworkers and administrative staff at the Itasca Park District and District 10 Schools. •    Responsible for following and enforcing all guidelines set forth in the Itasca Park District. •    Attend any training sessions required by the Itasca Park District. •    Supervision of all participants during activities and when escorting from Benson School and loading and unloading buses. •    Clean and disinfect any activity areas necessary at the conclusion of the programs, •    Maintain a safe environment for participants and other staff. •    Assist in the coordination of daily schedules and lesson plans. •     Use radio communication when outside or in the gym. Marginal Duties and Responsibilities: •    Attend all meetings, planning and training sessions as requested by the Recreation Supervisor. •    Develop and maintain good relationships with participants, parents, and other staff. •    Follow any discipline procedures as outlined in the Itasca Park District Policy Manual and the operations and Safety Manual. •    Prepare and submit any forms necessary including Accident/Incident Reports, time sheets, evaluations, weekly schedules, and lesson plans in a timely manner. •    Communicate problems, concerns, and changes in schedule to KLUB House Director. •    Communicate any behavioral or disciplinary problems to the attention of the KLUB House Director and/or Recreation Supervisor.  •    Assist in the inventory and return of all supplies and equipment to the Itasca Recreation Center. •    Perform any other duties and responsibilities not covered above but directed by the KLUB House Director, Recreation Supervisor or Superintendent of Recreation. Physical Demands & Environmental Conditions: Staff may be required to work inside and outside.  Dress appropriately for inclement weather when needed. May be required to work during various weather conditions, including hot and cold temperatures and rain or inclement weather. Sitting - occasionally    Walking - frequently    Strength – medium (0 – 50 lbs) Climbing – occasionally    Balancing – occasionally    Stooping – occasionally Kneeling – frequently    Crouching – frequently    Crawling – not present Reaching – frequently         ·    Must possess strength, stamina, and mobility to perform ongoing light to moderate work. ·    Incumbent will regularly stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, push, pull, lift, finger grasp, feel, sit and perform other repetitive motions, as required. ·    Ability to lift moderate weights of up to 50 pounds occasionally without assistance and heavier weights with assistance and/or the use of equipment. The ability to lift, turn and carry 50 pounds safely, placing the load on a chest-high shelf fulfills this lifting requirement. ·    Vision is required to observe all activities, the participants during activities and while walking to and from the school, the staff, and parents during drop off and pickup. ·    Hearing and speech are required to hear and converse with staff, parents, and participants.  ·    Work environment is indoors and outdoors at the Rec Center and grounds. ·    Potential exposure to chronic infectious disease while performing routine first aid or emergency procedures. ·    The use of the following personal protective clothing and equipment (PPE) is required, based on the assigned job duties. ·    Protective clothing and equipment are required:   o    Non-latex gloves o    Microshield and/or Sealeasy o    Automated External Defibrillator o    Hat/visor o    Sunglasses o    Sunscreen For a full list of benefits, please click here.
