  • Operates a wide variety of construction equipment and motorized wheeled vehicles including commercial trucks and tractors overĀ 25,000 lbs. to provide utilities, general excavation, and construction maintenance supportĀ Ā 

  • Performs manual labor for general maintenance and landscape construction tasks, including shoveling, paving, catch basin minor repairs, cleaning, tamping, snow removal, and other duties that applyĀ 

  • Promptly reports unsafe conditions or damage to campus landscape/hardscape, equipment, or facilitiesĀ 

  • Subject toĀ call-inĀ twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week to handle emergencies, especially snow eventsĀ Ā 

  • SubjectĀ toĀ shift changes and extended working hours (including nights, early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays) to meet seasonal work demandsĀ 

  • Subject to working in weather related extremes of heat and cold for extended periodsĀ 

  • MayĀ come into contact withĀ sewage and dead animalsĀ 

  • Regular exposure to bees and pollenĀ 

  • This position is covered by the UAW Collective Bargaining AgreementĀ 

  • At the end of the probationary period employees willĀ be requiredĀ to pay union dues per article 1 of the agreementĀ

  • Minimum of three years’ experience in the construction field, and related equipment operation, to include a minimum of one year’s experience working around underground utilities,Ā operatingĀ motorized construction and snowplow equipmentĀ 

  • Must have andĀ maintainĀ a valid US driver’s license; may beĀ requiredĀ toĀ operateĀ a motor vehicle (your own) vehicle or Cornell-owned) to travel to/from job sitesĀ 

  • CDLB licenseĀ requiredĀ or must obtain within 6 months of hire. MustĀ maintainĀ a current DOT physical, pass a pre-employment drug test and be subject to random drug and alcohol testing.Ā Ā Ā 

  • Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.Ā Ā Ā

  • Associates Degree in Construction TechnologyĀ desirableĀ 

  • Formal training in construction technologies, building trades or equipment operation, helpfulĀ
