This position will serve as an EFNEP Nutrition Educator for Cornell Cooperative Extension Association of Tompkins County and will implement public education to improve healthy food and lifestyle choices among families and individuals with limited resources and encompassing all age groups throughout the County. This includes presenting a series of 6 to 8 lessons that focus on general nutrition, food preparation, food safety, and food budgeting. Nutrition education may take place at County agencies, participant homes, or through virtual education. Recruitment of participants is also included as part of the workday. Collect and manage participant data ensuring confidentiality at all times.

Required Qualifications:

  • AssociateĀ degree or equivalent education (GED/High School Diploma and 1 yearĀ transferrable/program experience).Ā 
  • Experience relevant to the role of the position.Ā 
  • Ability and comfort in purchasing and preparing foods and reviewing and following recipes.Ā 
  • Ability to communicate (speak, read, and write proficiently) in English.Ā 
  • Ability and willingness to work with diverse audiences andĀ maintainĀ cultural sensitivity.Ā 
  • ProficiencyĀ with Windows-based software includingĀ useĀ of the internet and Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Excel.Ā 
  • Ability to present effective and relevant educational lessons to target audiences (one-on-one and group) and work with diverse audiences of all ages.Ā 
  • Ability and willingness to work with a high degree of integrity, accuracy, organization, sound professional judgment, and the ability to handle confidential, sensitive information.Ā 
  • Ability to plan and organize personal work responsibilities according to priorities developed with the immediate supervisor.Ā

Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

Program Responsibilities:Ā 

Program Delivery – 90%Ā 

  • AssistĀ with the creation of lesson plans to deliver high-quality Nutrition Education programming within the established framework.Ā 
  • Utilize existing program materials and educationalĀ frameworkĀ to teach the targeted number of adult and youth participants in the Nutrition Program.Ā 
  • Implement lesson plans using current and approved curricula and supplemental materials, and tailorĀ appropriate programmingĀ based onĀ identifiedĀ participant needs.Ā 
  • Inform participants of other Extension programs, community agencies, and services.Ā 
  • Collaborate with community agencies that serve the target audience.Ā 
  • Interact with program participantsĀ representing CCEĀ in a professional mannerĀ at all times.Ā 
  • Represent CCE before the public, community leaders, government officials, Cornell, or other land grant universities as part of program delivery.Ā Ā 

Administrative Responsibilities:Ā 

Coordination/Operation – 5%Ā  ​

  • Maintain records of class participants, complete reports, and accurately collect and prepare paperwork asĀ requiredĀ for the program evaluation process.Ā 
  • Utilize existing program materials and educational framework to recruit and graduate the targeted number of adult and youth participants in the Nutrition Program.Ā 
  • CollectĀ enrollment (entry)Ā and exit data for all adult and youth participants.Ā Ā 
  • Maintain confidentiality of all information and data collected, accessed, and/orĀ maintained.Ā 
  • Submit collected data for entry into the ā€œWebneersā€ tracking program.Ā Ā 
  • Submit program expense reports on time.Ā 
  • Provide information as requested to assist with the preparation of reports, impact statements, and success stories on program progress and accomplishments for funders, advisory committees, the Board, and others as necessary.Ā 
  • Prepare andĀ submitĀ accurateĀ expense reports, mileage reports, receipts/supporting documentation, and/or vouchersĀ in a timely mannerĀ per established policy and procedures.Ā Ā 
  • Provide data and information to assist with the preparation of reports, impact statements, and success stories for funders, advisory committees, the Board, and others as requested.Ā 
  • Create and distribute promotional and marketing materials to recruit program participants through print, news, and social media.Ā 
  • This position will require the transport ofĀ self and/orĀ program materials/resources in performing position responsibilities.Ā 

Professional Improvement – 5%Ā 

  • In cooperation with Supervisor and/or Executive Director, jointly develop and pursue a professional development planĀ as a means toĀ increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes and Association priorities.Ā 
  • Participate in all required orientation, training, and/or in-service meetings and trainings asĀ scheduled/required.  
  • Pursue personal growth through expanding personal knowledge of the total organization and through updating techniques and technical skills relating to the position.Ā 
  • Collaborate in activities that are inĀ general supportĀ of Cornell Cooperative ExtensionĀ including but not limited to attendance at staff meetings,Ā timelyĀ reporting of expenses, working with other staff, general marketing of Cooperative Extension programs and other duties as assigned.
