Reports to: Comptroller Position Roles and Goals The Accountant supports the financial operations of the REACH Project Inc., a nonprofit medical practice specializing in harm reduction and integrated healthcare services. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, supporting audits and grant reporting, managing cost centers, and ensuring compliance with New York State regulations, including NYS CFR requirements. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, systems-savvy, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, mission-driven healthcare environment. Key Responsibilities Accounting & Financial Operations Maintain general ledger and perform monthly, quarterly, and year-end closings Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations Supervise and manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cash reconciliations Maintain chart of accounts and cost center structure to support program-level reporting Grants & Restricted Funding Track grant revenue and expenses by funding source and program Ensure proper allocation of costs in accordance with grant agreements and NYS CFR in coordination with Grants Coordinator Support grant invoicing, drawdowns, and financial reporting Assist with budget development and variance analysis for grants and programs Audits & Compliance Prepare schedules and supporting documentation for annual financial audits Serve as a point of contact for auditors and funding agencies as needed Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards, internal controls, and NYS regulatory requirements Support policies and procedures related to financial compliance and reporting Systems & Reporting Utilize accounting systems (preferably Sage Intacct) to ensure accurate and efficient financial management Develop and maintain financial reports for leadership, program staff, and the Board of Directors Use Excel for reconciliations, reporting, and data analysis (pivot tables, formulas, etc.) Supervision & Collaboration Provide supervision to finance staff, as applicable Collaborate with operations, clinical, and administrative teams to support financial operations as needed or required Support cross-departmental understanding of budgets, cost centers, and financial processes QualificationsRequired Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field Minimum of 3–5 years of accounting experience, preferably in nonprofit and/or healthcare settings Strong understanding of nonprofit accounting principles and fund accounting Experience supporting audits and working with external auditors High level Proficiency in Excel and accounting systems Preferred Qualifications Experience with Sage Intacct or similar nonprofit accounting systems Experience with New York State CFR (NYS CFR) and government-funded programs Experience with grant-funded medical or behavioral health services Prior supervisory or lead accounting experience Knowledge of harm reduction, community health, or social services environments Core Competencies Strong attention to detail and accuracy Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines Analytical and problem-solving skills Clear communication and collaboration skills Commitment to equity, inclusion, and harm-reduction principles Benefits: This full-time position offers a competitive salary and benefits.
