Bring your critical care instincts, procedural confidence, and patient-centered focus to a nursing role whereĀ assessment, precision, and teamwork directly shape outcomes. UVA Health’s Interventional Radiology team offers experienced RNs the opportunity to practice in a highly specialized environment where imaging-guided procedures, advanced technology, and collaborative care come together every day.Ā

Ā

This is an excellent opportunity for an RN who enjoys aĀ fast-paced procedural setting, values strong physician and technologist collaboration, and wants exposure to a broad range of minimally invasive interventions. You willĀ support patients across the full procedural continuum, from pre-procedure assessment through sedationĀ monitoringĀ and recovery, while developing deepĀ expertiseĀ in one of healthcare’s most dynamic specialties.Ā

Ā

The RoleĀ

As an Interventional Radiology RN, you will care for patients before, during, and after image-guided procedures using modalities such asĀ CT, fluoroscopy, x-ray, and ultrasound. This role is ideal for nurses who thrive on clinical variety, strong assessment work, and the ability toĀ anticipateĀ patient needs in a high-throughput procedural environment.Ā

Ā

In an average day, you may support patients undergoing procedures involvingĀ PICC lines, central lines, tunneled lines, dialysis catheters, abscess drains, nephrostomy tubes, cholecystostomy tubes, and endovascular interventionsĀ involving arteries, veins, clots, and thrombolytic therapies. No two days are exactly alike, and the pace keeps your skills sharp.Ā
Ā
The strongest candidates often bring ED or ICU experience, strong assessment and critical-thinking skills, comfort with higher-acuity patients, and an interest in building or expanding procedural and sedation nursingĀ expertise.Ā

Ā

Key elements of the role include:Ā

  • Assessing and preparing patients for procedures, including vital signs, IV access, procedural readiness, patient history, allergies, NPO status, cardiac rhythm, and relevant risk factors.Ā

  • Providing intra-procedure nursing support, includingĀ sedation administration and monitoring, vital sign documentation, and continuous patient assessment.Ā

  • Collaborating closely withĀ interventional radiologists, technologists, and procedural team membersĀ to support safe, efficient, high-quality care.Ā

  • Monitoring patients in recovery for bleeding, complications, sedation response, and post-procedure readiness.Ā

  • Providing patient education and ensuring a safe transition following procedures.Ā

  • WorkingĀ inĀ aĀ Monday-Friday core scheduleĀ with full-time 36-hour or 40-hour options, including potential schedules of three 12-hour shifts or four 10-hour shifts.Ā

  • Participating in call, typicallyĀ 2 to 3 call shifts every six weeks, with a 30-minute response radius requirement or the ability to remain on-site while on call.Ā
