Job Description Summary:

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Performs direct and indirect patient care responsibilities as assigned by the charge nurse and/or preceptor.
• Ensures patient safety.
• Documents delivery of patient care and other pertinent information in patients’ medical record and updates plan of care for assigned patients as necessary.
• Performs responsibilities as related to the safe disposal of hazardous pharmaceutical waste.
• Communicates information regarding patients and unit operations to RN, Charge Nurse, Clinical Manager, Director, and other shifts promptly using proper lines of communication.
• Communicates effectively with other departments with personnel from other departments in the hospital, using proper lines of communication.
• Performs and documents secondary assessment on patients in Med/Surg, Progressive Care, Post Acute, and Skilled Nursing only.
• Performs related responsibilities as required or directed.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:

• An official transcript denoting graduation from an accredited school of nursing is required.
• Must provide primary verification of passing the NCLEX examination and be licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of TN before completion of the orientation period.  Failure to do so will result in termination of the position as a Graduate Nurse. 

LICENSURE, REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION:

• BLS certification must be obtained within the orientation period, and certification must be kept current while in this position.
• ACLS certification preferred but not required.

EXPERIENCE:

• Successful completion of a nursing program at an accredited school of nursing.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Knowledge and skills as normally acquired through the successful completion of a nursing program at an accredited school of nursing.
• Basic computer skills preferred.
