PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Supervises, coordinates and oversees all operations and procedures within the plant during the designated shift, in accordance with all company policies, manufacturing standards and methods and quality standards.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Directs the work of Team Leaders and associates by assigning/re-assigning work stationing and analyzes production requirements base on current work situation and production schedules.

 

Utilizes knowledge and skills to maintain the highest level of quality and efficiency possible.

 

Monitors the flow of parts, materials, productivity and quality –takes corrective action as needed.

 

Maintains a safe working environment for all associates. Familiar with all procedures concerning HazWaste and Spill

Response and security procedures for entire facility.

 

Evaluates and analyzes problems involving machinery, equipment and coordinates repair of tools and machinery.

 

Orientates and oversees all training of associates and assigns experienced and/or certified trainers to perform new associate training and cross training as needed.

 

Maintains, plans and prepares department instruction manuals.

 

Coordinates and advises the AMW Team.

 

Works with engineering to qualify new molds, revised molds, and machines if applicable.

 

Maintains specified records, files and logs of department/shift activities such as production, scrap, quality, maintenance, etc. (manual and computer) as required.

 

Prepares reports and spread sheets of required data.

 

Assists throughout the Production group to facilitate the flow of work solve problems, answer questions, etc.

 

Trains and coaches associate to maintain productivity and quality standards, in TS19649, ISO 14001,environmental safety, quality, job performance, setups, and trouble shooting and continuous improvement.

 

Performs performance reviews, and participates in discipline and termination of associates if necessary.

 

Participates in the setting of goals and coordinates improvement teams.

 

Trains set up associates on set up and trouble shooting skills.

 

Performs various administrative duties, i.e., attendance records, reports of parts shortages, production problems.

 

Evaluates probationary associates' performance and makes decision on retention/release.

 

Participates in frequent evaluation of machines, tools, equipment, etc.

 

Performs and/or participates in ergonomic exercises, 5S housekeeping, team activities, dress codes, safety rules and all other applicable company policies and procedures.

Administers TS19649 procedures as they apply within the assigned department.

 

Fosters associate involvement in continuous improvement activities.

 

Performs other duties as assigned.

 *Monitors and controls phone calls, transports associates for medical attention, maintains a secure workplace and makes other independent decisions as required.

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

Previous work experience in a manufacturing supervision position

in lieu of formal education would be acceptable to prepare for the position on a two to one substitution ratio. Six to

nine months in the job would be required to become proficient in most phases.

 

JOB KNOWLEDGE:

Requires knowledge of basic supervisory skills including planning, work scheduling, performance evaluation and motivational techniques. Must possess good interpersonal skills, and the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.  Requires thorough understanding of company product, trade terminology, quality management and control systems and techniques, manufacturing processes including material controls, work flow, scheduling, kanban, machine operation and company policies as standards.  Requires ability to read instruction manuals, blue prints and specifications.  Requires ability to adapt available skills and equipment to respond to unforeseen demands and/or problems.  Require the ability to plan, supervise

and functions of assigned areas.

 

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES:

Must plan, direct and coordinate a full scope of activities within the assigned area. Problem solving, judgement, initiative, analytical and evaluation skills are required. Must deal with a wide variety of situations requiring a wide range of responses.

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:        

Works under the general direction of the Asst. Manager and General Manager where goals and objectives, company policies and procedures are clearly defined.  Has latitude for independent judgement and coordination of production to achieve expected results.

 

RESPONSIBILITY FOR ACCURACY:

Must review and check for accuracy the hour’s reported/worked by associates.  Must control accurate workmanship of associates to preclude errors, which would result in poor quality of product, customer dissatisfaction and lost revenues.

 

CONTACT WITH OTHERS:

Contacts are most often with production manager, Group Leaders, Team Leaders and associates. Also has regular contacts with Quality, Production Control, Receiving, Engineering, Maintenance, Tool & Die, and Human Resources. Occasionally has outside

Contacts with suppliers and plant visitors, which requires professional etiquette and decorum to maintain positive relations.

 

CONFIDENTIAL DATA:

Personnel records of subordinates and proprietary manufacturing processes would be considered confidential and should not be disclosed.

 

 

MENTAL/VISUAL/PHYSICAL EFFORT:

Performance requires mental alertness and sustained attention to needs of the department in terms of workflow, efficiency of operation, machine adjustment and operator output.  Physical ability to inspect/adjust equipment.  Must have visual acuity.  Physical stamina required to support walking through factory.  Required to talk, hear, reach and stoop.

ENVIRONMENT:

Involves moderate or occasional presence of some slightly disagreeable conditions, i.e., odor, heat, etc.

 

EXTENT OF SUPERVISION:

Performs full range of first level supervisory responsibilities, which include planning, organizing, directing and reporting on associate performance.  Make decisions on probationary associate’s retention and disciplinary actions including termination of those in the supervised unit.

 

SCOPE OF SUPERVISION:

Directly supervise between 20 to 30 associates.
