Job Description

Primary responsibilities are to assist the Head Coach in all aspects of Division I program including, but not limited to, teaching student athletes how to perform soccer, coordinating team travel arrangements, game day personnel management, and other duties as assigned by the Head Coach or Athletic Administration. This position will also assist the Head Coach in organization, administration, and promotion of the program. Approximately 50% of the Assistant Coach’s responsibility is dedicated to the teaching and instruction of Soccer through on-field (or on-court) training and classroom training through use of video and other teaching techniques. Approximately 50% of the Assistant Coach’s responsibilities are other administrative duties. Candidates must be committed to the academic and athletic success of the student-athletes.Ā 

Supervisory Responsibilities

Duties/Responsibilities

Assisting with any or all of the following duties as assigned by Head Coach:Ā 


TEACHING/INSTRUCTING STUDENT-ATHLETES HOW TO DEVELOP AND PERFORM IN THE SPORT OF SOCCER – Responsible for:Ā 

Ā· Instructing players in the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.Ā 

Ā· Organizing and directing individual and small group practice activities/exercises as directed by the head coachĀ 

Ā· Assess player’s skills, monitors players during competition and practice, and keeps the head coach informed of the athletic performance of studentsĀ 

Ā 

SCHEDULING– Responsible for:Ā 

Ā· Assisting with scheduling of all competitionĀ 


FINANCIAL AID– Responsible for:Ā 

Ā· Understanding NCAA regulationsĀ 

Ā· Initiating process for initial and renewal grantsĀ 

Ā· Consistently updating team rostersĀ 

Ā· Meeting athletic grant-in-aid budgetĀ 

Ā 

BUDGETS– Responsible for:Ā 

Ā· Assisting in annual budget preparationĀ 

Ā· Staying within amount budgeted for fiscal yearĀ 

Ā· Having all expenditures pre-approved through appropriate channelsĀ 

Ā 

TRAVEL– Responsible for:Ā 

Ā· Initiating process for all travel arrangements and submitting reports within 48 hours of return

Ā 

EQUIPMENT/APPAREL– Responsible for:Ā 

Ā· Pre- and Post-season inventoryĀ 

Ā· Care and maintenance of all equipment/apparel and facilitiesĀ 

Ā· Initiating process to order equipment/apparelĀ 

Ā 

ACADEMICS– Responsible for:Ā 

Ā· Supporting all Department of Athletics policies on classroom attendance, study hall, progress reports and enforcing disciplinary actionsĀ 

Ā· Working with teams to maintain and increase their APRĀ 

Ā 

FUNDRAISING– Responsible for:Ā 

Ā· Getting prior approval from the Development office prior to initiating a fund raising activityĀ 

Ā· Devising new methods of fund raisingĀ 

Ā· Being available for Departmental fund raising activitiesĀ 

Ā· Following guidelines established by Department, University, and the NCAA for fund raising activitiesĀ 

Ā 

PAPERWORK – Responsible for:Ā 

Ā· Completing all paperwork by established athletic department and NCAA deadlinesĀ 

Ā 

MEETINGS – Responsible for:Ā 

Ā· Attending and contributing to all Department of Athletics meetings and requested functions

Ā 

CAMPS - Responsible for:Ā 

Ā· Following guidelines established by Department, University, and the NCAA for camp procedures and operationsĀ 


RECRUITING - Responsible for:Ā 

Ā· Compliance with NCAA recruiting rules and completing associated paperwork in a timely manner

Ā· Arranging financially responsible recruiting tripsĀ 

Ā· Initiating arrangements for all official visitsĀ 

Ā· Recruiting student who will be an asset to the University and Department of Athletics and graduate in a timely manner

Ā 

Required Skills/Abilities

Ā· Knowledge of NCAA Rules and Regulations

Ā·Ā Mastery of sport coached

Ā· Ability to lead, guide and direct graduate assistants, interns and student-athletesĀ 

Ā· Willingness to form relationships with constituents and help fundraise


Education, Certificates, Licenses, and Experience

1. Minimum Education Requirement:Ā 

Ā·Ā Bachelor’s degree from accredited college or university, master’s degree preferred

Ā 2. Minimum Work Experience:Ā 

Ā· Two years collegiate coaching experience at NCAA Division I level preferredĀ 

3. Preferred Qualifications:Ā 

Ā· Experience with NCAA Division I Rules and RegulationsĀ 

Ā· Proven recruiting abilitiesĀ 

Ā· Demonstrated leadership skills


Physical Requirements

Ā·Must be able to physically perform essential job duties or have special accommodations arranged in advance

Work Conditions

Ā· Required to work atypical hours including nights, weekends, potential holidays

Ā· May be required to practice in heat, cold, inclement weather
