EDUCATION
Ability to read, write, speak, and understand written and verbal directions in English at a level sufficient to communicate effectively with members, guests, colleagues, and management.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
- At least six months of bartending, food and beverage, or private-club service experience required.
- Previous experience using a Point of Sale (POS) system required.
- Experience in a private club, luxury resort, hotel, restaurant, or similar service-focused environment preferred.
- Must meet all applicable age requirements for serving alcoholic beverages.
JOB KNOWLEDGE
Must possess a working knowledge of alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages, including beer, wine, spirits, classic cocktails, and proper pouring techniques. Must understand responsible alcohol service, bar sanitation, glassware, beverage presentation, cash and member-account handling, and appropriate equipment and safety procedures.
JOB SUMMARY
The Bartender provides exceptional beverage and dining service to members and their guests at the Wheelhouse Café. This position is responsible for preparing and serving beverages accurately, maintaining a clean and fully stocked bar, recognizing and using members’ names, anticipating member needs, and contributing to a positive team environment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to stand and move at a quick pace for several hours at a time. Must be able to lift, carry, and move up to 35 pounds, including furniture, glassware, dishes, ice, beer, wine, liquor, beverage racks, trays, and cases. This position may involve working in indoor and outdoor areas and exposure to seasonal weather conditions.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Arrive to work on time, consistently, and be prepared for each scheduled shift.
- Work a flexible full-time schedule that may include days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Maintain a professional, welcoming appearance and comply with all Club uniform and grooming standards, including wearing a name tag.
- Complete all opening, closing, and assigned side work thoroughly and on time.
- Set up the bar before service, ensuring that liquor, beer, wine, mixers, garnishes, ice, glassware, and supplies are properly stocked and organized.
- Attend pre-shift meetings to review daily specials, events, service expectations, and other relevant information.
- Greet members and their guests immediately with a smile and provide prompt, attentive service.
- Prepare and serve alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages according to Club recipes, presentation standards, and responsible-service guidelines.
- Maintain knowledge of available beverages, menu offerings, daily specials, and Club events.
- Make beverage recommendations and answer member and guest questions accurately and professionally.
- Monitor alcohol consumption and follow all Club policies and applicable laws regarding responsible alcohol service.
- Accurately enter orders into the POS system and process member checks in a timely manner.
- Maintain a clean, sanitary, organized, and fully stocked bar throughout each shift.
- Wash and polish glassware and properly clean bar tools, equipment, counters, coolers, and service areas.
- Communicate effectively with servers, kitchen colleagues, Café Captains, and Food and Beverage management to ensure efficient service.
- Check identification when required and follow all applicable alcohol-service regulations.
- Close and verify all member checks at the end of the shift.
- Complete checkout procedures and submit required paperwork to the Café Captain or Food and Beverage Manager.
- Report equipment concerns, inventory shortages, member concerns, or safety issues promptly to management.
- Assist with dining-room or poolside service when needed to support an exceptional member experience.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Café Captain or Food and Beverage Manager.
