Anticipated Certified SPED Teacher-Horizons Day Treatment (North Little Rock)

      K-12 Certified, (SPED certified preferred or willing to become certified in SPED)

 The Certified Teacher provides academic and behavioral intervention services to help develop plans for students who have been placed in the setting that will help them overcome the barriers to their success in a regular setting with an emphasis on providing curriculum, instruction, and assessment monitoring progress of the overall campus program.

 


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Teach district/program approved curriculum and maintain accurate student records
  • Develop differentiated lessons appropriate for ALE students; small group, one-on-one, whole group, etc.
  • Provide nurturing, supportive, and positive classroom environment that encourages student responsibility 
  • Participate in student placement and transition conferences as needed as well as assist in developing individualized Student Action Plans (SAP), Transition Plans, Behavior Plans and etc. as related to student behavior, academics and transition
  • Adapt and modify instruction and intervention based on students emotional, behavioral, academic and social status 
  • Assist administration in implementing district policies and guidelines that govern student behavior and safety 
  • Maintain an orderly and safe classroom environment 
  • Communicate and collaborate with all stakeholders to ensure student success is maximized   
  • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians about student progress 
  • Exercise open, appropriate and respectful communication with families, co-workers, supervisors, and other school staff
  • Partner with school counseling services and mental health providers in order to positively affect student success 
  • Direct, instruct, and evaluate the learning experiences of all students
  • Incorporate differentiated instruction along with best practices to ensure that quality instruction is in place
  • Incorporate project-based learning into the instructional model of lesson plans
  • Incorporate technology into the lesson plan which supports project-based learning
  •  Encourage the proper care and protection of school property
  • Maintain the proper teacher-parent-student relationships
  • Be responsible for student supervision at all times during assigned classes or duty
  • Adhere to the Arkansas Code of Ethics
  • Follow procedures in the personnel policy handbook(s)
  • Other duties as assigned by the director, program supervisor, campus supervisor

 
QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Bachelor’s degree and current Arkansas teaching license 
  • SPED certification preferred
  • Knowledge and experience in adolescent behavior issues and psychology
  • Deep concern for fostering constructive adolescent behavior, especially in support of social, emotional, behavioral and academic achievement
  • Licensure in assigned areas and/or AQT documentation
  • Experience working with at-risk students is preferred
  • Positive attitude


 PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:    

  • Standing and monitoring learning environment during classroom instruction
  • The ability to use Handle with Care when necessary
  • Standing and monitoring periods of indoor and outdoor physical activities (recess, breaks, activities, etc.)
