Job DetailsJob Location: Jacksonville - Jacksonville, FL 32256Position Type: Full TimeTravel Percentage: NoneJob Shift: DayPOSITION SUMMARY As a FDOT Project Surveyor, you will assist with crew coordination, processing, computations, boundary determinations, design surveys and mapping.  Project Surveyors are required to demonstrate a more comprehensive knowledge of surveys and field operations. The individual in this position is well-versed in the day-to-day operational functions of a field and/or office survey organization under the direction of a Project Manager. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Aid the Surveying Project Director in the completion of design surveys, the completion of R/W Maps, and the preparation of legal descriptions using FDOT scope requirements. Prepare required FDOT reports that support field surveys, as needed. Supervise Survey Technicians as they prepare Surveys and Maps for completeness and schedule. Perform survey calculations and analyze survey data to prepare survey maps, plats, and right of way maps. Coordinate and assist in preparing project estimates and schedules. Aid in the drafting of the Mapping Product should the schedule demand. Write and review legal descriptions. Work as a field crew member, if needed. Coordinate findings with the project engineers. Ensure the QC process has been completed before the survey products advance to the project manager's review. Train assistants and helpers by directing their work in such activities as performing surveys or drafting maps. Serve as a team leader, emphasizing technical abilities, leadership skills, or management abilities on FDOT survey projects. Communicate with clients and agency personnel, as necessary.  May work with other teams, departments, and/or offices to ensure that expert staff is consulted when appropriate for a project concern/issue. Responsible for control of work-in-process, ensuring accurate client billings, and conducting outstanding accounts receivable and collection efforts on his/her projects. Guide the field and office crew members in the performance of their duties and mentor and coach them to advance within the survey profession as their individual abilities allow May perform light office duties including but not limited to filing, making copies, and scanning. May carry out other duties as assigned by management. QualificationsEDUCATION / EXPERIENCE Active Florida Professional Surveyor & Mapper (PSM) credentials.  Or a Surveyor in Training who will be able to obtain their certification within one year of being hired as a Project Surveyor. 2-year degree in Geomatics/Surveying, Engineering Technology, or 4-year degree in Engineering or related field, from an accredited vocational school, college, university, or combination of experience and training which demonstrates the ability to perform the above-described duties. Minimum of 5 years of managing/surveying FDOT projects. Computer skills with a good working knowledge of the current version of MicroStation and the ability to learn how to use other specialist software.   SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES Excellent relationship-building and interpersonal skills. The ability to work in a team. Capable of managing his/her projects, communicating well with clients, and mentoring junior-level staff members. Familiarity with state and county mapping requirements. Strong sense of urgency and self-initiative to meet client deadlines. Must have the ability to communicate well with clients and other project team members. Works with integrity and ethics; supports the organization’s culture, goals, and values. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Requires a valid driver’s license and must maintain eligibility to drive as per the Company Vehicle Policy. May occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
