Job Summary

The Instructional Designer will provide support to faculty, programs and schools in development of courses and programs for the flipped, hybrid and/or online environment. Responsibilities include analysis, design, development and implementation of course modules or entire courses; web-based and face-to-face training using instructional design tools and software for faculty; and support for content area experts in all phases of instructional design.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Support and assist in the development of technology-driven instructional and courseware solutions.
  • Evaluates and analyzes emerging learning technologies trends that integrate technological innovations into both online and ground-based courses.
  • Provide training, support, and assistance to faculty in utilizing LMS (Blackboard) and other instructional technologies.
  • Designs, implements, and delivers training sessions and learning modules using a variety of technologies and modalities to assist in the transfer of knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of training materials to ensure objectives are accomplished.
  • Reviews courses and facilitates course improvements.
  • Assist faculty with the application of instructional design theory and practices, best practices in online course design and development, and application of learning theories.
  • Compile and maintain reports that communicate the status of project outcomes


Required Skills/Abilities

  • Management experience related to technology user support. 
  • Possess advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office, graphic software, video recording software, and web publishing. 
  • Communicate well with others, both verbally and in writing, and be able to effectively interact with administration, faculty, staff and other outside contacts. 
  • Ability to coordinate and maintain relationships with cross-functional departments to ensure efficient operations. 
  • Demonstrated high-level computer software skills in word processing, desktop publishing and design, web programming, spreadsheet, database, Blackboard, and presentation software, and emerging 2.0 web technologies. 
  • Ability to measure and report on metrics and indicators of service level activity and customer satisfaction. 
  • Possess a strong customer-service mentality and attitude. 
  • Five or more years of working in higher education preferred. 

 

Education, Experience, Licenses & Certifications

  • Minimum Education Requirement: Bachelor’s degree 
  • Minimum Work Experience: Minimum five (5) years of related experience, preferably in higher education 
  • Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in Instructional Design 


Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift and carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 40 pounds
  • Must be able to bend, stoop and reach
  • Manual dexterity to efficiently operate a computer keyboard and other business machines
  • Near vision sufficient to read written communications and computer display screens
  • Adequate hearing to communicate effectively in person and by phone
