Job SummaryÂ
The Mechanical & Plumbing Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates for mechanical and plumbing systems in construction projects. This role involves analyzing project drawings, specifications, and bid documents to determine labor, material, and equipment costs. The estimator works closely with project managers, engineers, subcontractors, and manufacturer representatives to ensure competitive and profitable bids.Â
Key ResponsibilitiesÂ
- Review and interpret project plans, blueprints, specifications, and contract documentsÂ
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for HVAC, piping, plumbing, and mechanical systemsÂ
- Conduct quantity take-offs and analyze labor, materials, and equipment requirementsÂ
- Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotationsÂ
- Develop bid proposals, including scope of work, pricing, and schedulesÂ
- Maintain and update cost databases, historical data, and estimating toolsÂ
- Identify project risks, value engineering opportunities, and cost-saving alternativesÂ
- Collaborate with project managers and design teams to ensure accurate budgetingÂ
- Attend pre-bid meetings and site visits as requiredÂ
- Track and analyze bid outcomes to improve future estimating accuracyÂ
Required QualificationsÂ
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field  experienceÂ
- 3–7+ years of estimating experience in mechanical and/or plumbing construction or related field  experienceÂ
- Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, piping, and plumbing systemsÂ
- Strong knowledge in developing design-build conceptual estimatesÂ
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specificationsÂ
- Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, Trimble, Autobid, or similar tools)Â
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Products (e.g., Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.)Â
- Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skillsÂ
- Excellent communication and organizational skillsÂ
- Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneouslyÂ
