Position Overview

The Division of Rehabilitation Services is seeking to hire an energetic Recreation Worker who plans, schedules, directs and supervises intramural programs, gym and swimming pool activities at the Illinois School for the Deaf. This position plans, conducts and supervises off-campus field trips and outings. The Recreation Worker also maintains inventory of gym and pool equipment and completes requisitions for supplies for program activities.

Essential Functions

  • Plans, schedules, directs and supervises intramural programs, gym and swimming pool activities.
  • Plans, conducts and supervises off-campus field trips and outings.
  • Maintains inventory of gym and pool equipment and completes requisitions for supplies for program activities.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years college.
  • Requires six (6)-months of experience in recreation, group work or recreational therapy.   
  • Requires the ability to communicate and pass the Sign Language Proficiency Interview (SLPI) at the Survival Plus level.

Conditions of Employment

  • Requires the ability to become lifeguard certified for swimming pool activities.
  • Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
