Job Description
The Sailing Team Director of Operations will be responsible for providing logistics, administrative, management and leadership support to the team. Day-to-day responsibilities include managing schedules, practice and meetings, regattas, as well as identifying, and prioritizing items for action, planning and executing team administration. The Director of Operations works with a diverse group of athletes, coaching staff, Parents, donors, recruits as well as communicates with professors, staff and administration levels within and associated with the University.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Assist Interviews, hires, and trains new staff.Â
- Assist in overseeing the daily workflow of the department.
- Assist in evaluating performance and provides timely feedback.
- Helps to resolve employee issues and disputes.
- Assist in handling discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.
Duties/Responsibilities
Coaching Support
- Assist with on-the-water coaching during team practices and select regattas
- Support general sailing skill development for all team members
- Provide mentorship and encourage leadership among student-athletes

Operations & Logistics
- Â Manage all team travel logistics, including flights, lodging, transportation, and itineraries
- Coordinate regatta planning and travel arrangements
- Organize team schedules, including practices, team meetings, and events
- Â Manage and design gear/merch purchases

Leadership & Team Culture
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and high-performing team environment
- Develop leadership opportunities and initiatives for team members
Â
Outreach & Development
- Serve as a point of contact for alumni relations and donor communications
- Collaborate on fundraising efforts, including campaigns, events, and stewardship
- Â Represent the program.
Â
Preferred Qualifications
• Previous collegiate sailing experience (as athlete, coach, or staff)
• Strong organizational and communication skills
• Experience with logistics, travel planning, or event coordination
• Passion for student-athlete leadership and development
• Proficiency with social media and/or donor relations tools is a plus
Education, Certificates, Licenses and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred.Â
- Minimum US Sailing level 1 Certification required
- Knowledge, experience and understanding of College Sailing
- At least one year of related experience required.Â
- Valid Drivers LicenseÂ
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift and carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to bend, stoop, and reach.
- Manual dexterity to efficiently operate a computer keyboard and other business machines.
- Adequate hearing to communicate effectively in person and by phone.
- Must be able to drive sailboats, motorboats and large team vans.
