Staff Accountant – Join the Miller Team

Position Overview

The staff accountant at Miller Electric is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, performing timely account reconciliations, and ensuring compliance with state and local tax requirements. This role supports the month-end close process, prepares and files sales & use tax returns, manages personal property tax filings, and assists with general accounting functions to support organizational financial accuracy and integrity.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and complete monthly balance sheet account reconciliations.
  • Investigate and resolve variances in a timely manner.
  • Maintain organized documentation supporting all reconciliations.
  • Assist with month‑end and year‑end close processes
  • Prepare journal entries with appropriate support.
  • Assist in preparation of audit schedules for external auditors.
  • Research tax law and answer internal tax questions related to on going projects.
  • Maintain a compliance calendar to manage deadlines and reduce penalty risk.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting
  • 3–4 years of accounting and tax experience
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and general ledger structure.
  • Experience with sales & use tax
  • Proficiency with Excel and accounting/ERP systems.
  • Preferred experience with COINS (ERP Construction Software)
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and work independently.
