Position Summary
The Volunteer Engagement Coordinator is responsible for delivering a high-quality volunteer experience. This role serves as a frontline leader of volunteer operations, ensuring that each shift runs safely and effectively while creating a welcoming, mission-driven environment that encourages volunteers to stay connected to Feeding Northeast Florida.
This is a highly active, hands-on role that takes place in both a warehouse setting and out in the community. Coordinators will work indoors in a fast-paced warehouse environment and outdoors during mobile pantry distributions in varying weather conditions.
The Coordinator also supports broader community engagement efforts by identifying and sharing opportunities for deeper volunteer involvement, while maintaining strong operational standards related to safety, quality, and volunteer management.Â
Key Responsibilities
Volunteer Experience & Engagement
- Lead and support volunteer shifts to ensure a positive, organized, and engaging experienceÂ
- Build strong relationships with volunteers and foster an environment that encourages return participationÂ
- Communicate the organization’s mission and impact in a clear and engaging wayÂ
- Help create a consistent and welcoming experience across all volunteer interactions
Leadership & Development
- Provide day-to-day supervision, coaching, and support to interns, volunteer captains, skilled volunteers, and teen ambassadors
- Support onboarding and ongoing training to build confidence and skillsÂ
- Offer feedback and guidance to support growth and development of volunteers and staff
- Model strong leadership, communication, and facilitation practices
Engagement Tracking & Pipeline Awareness
- Capture and share key observations related to volunteer engagement and participationÂ
- Identify volunteers who may be interested in deeper involvement and communicate those opportunities to the appropriate teamÂ
- Support simple tracking efforts that help the organization better understand volunteer engagement trendsÂ
Operations, Food Safety & Compliance
- Ensure volunteer activities are conducted safely and in alignment with organizational procedures and standardsÂ
- Support adherence to food safety guidelines by overseeing proper sorting, handling, and quality review of donated productsÂ
- Maintain awareness of safety risks within volunteer activities and take appropriate action to address concernsÂ
- Participate in and support organizational safety practices, including product quality standards and recall protocols as neededÂ
Volunteer Coordination, Records & Inventory Support
- Ensure volunteer check-in processes are followed and that volunteer participation is accurately capturedÂ
- Support basic record keeping related to volunteer activity and shift participationÂ
- Assist in maintaining organization and accuracy of materials and supplies used during volunteer shiftsÂ
- Support coordination of packing and sorting activities to align with program and distribution needsÂ
Warehouse Operations & Environment
- Support the preparation, organization, and reset of volunteer work areas before and after shiftsÂ
- Maintain a clean, safe, and well-organized environment for volunteers and staffÂ
- Assist with warehouse and distribution activities, including mobile pantry support as neededÂ
- Utilize warehouse equipment such as electric pallet jacks and other tools as required (training provided)Â
Team & Program Support
- Collaborate with team members to support volunteer programming and special eventsÂ
- Contribute to ongoing improvements in volunteer processes and overall experienceÂ
- Support organizational priorities as neededÂ
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; college degree preferredÂ
- 2+ years of experience in customer service, retail, or a related fieldÂ
- Experience working with volunteers or in a nonprofit environment
- Strong interpersonal and communication skillsÂ
- Comfortable leading groups and engaging diverse audiencesÂ
- Ability to adapt and problem-solve in a fast-paced environmentÂ
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detailÂ
- Ability to remain calm and effective in dynamic or high-pressure situationsÂ

Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Active warehouse environment requiring standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 30 poundsÂ
- Regular work outdoors during mobile pantry distributions in varying weather conditionsÂ
- Frequent interaction with large groups of volunteersÂ
- Use of warehouse equipment, including electric pallet jacks (training provided)Â
- Tuesday–Saturday schedule with occasional Sundays, Mondays, or eveningsÂ
