This position directly reports to: people supported, assigned Supervisor. Position Summary Remove barriers and provide supports in a unique, changing environment.  Assist people to lead self-directed lives and participate fully in the community.  Provide supports independently and as part of a collaborative care team.  Be a positive role model and enjoy your career caring for people.  Care may be provided to persons in either residential or day center facilities depending on scheduling, or when accompanying the person in the place(s) of volunteering or anywhere the person may need assistance. The responsibilities and duties listed below are representative and not all inclusive. Key Responsibilities Incorporate our values and mission into delivery of all services. Perform duties and represent one’s self in a positive and professional manner.  Because this position provides direct support services to people, regular and on-time attendance is critical; willingness to be flexible in scheduling. Foster positive relationships between people supported, guardians, and family members, and coworkers. Empower people supported to make informed decisions, facilitate inclusion in community experiences and activities, and promote independence in daily activities such as work, learning, and leisure. Assist to carry out people supported development and support services plans and goals; perform personal care tasks such as assisting person with personal hygiene and grooming; may perform home management functions such as cooking or shopping; may accompany person(s) to health care appointments. Each DSP is directly responsible to provide orientation and training for new employees assigned to work with that DSP in their work area. Administer or supervise self-administration of medication. Communicate regularly with assigned supervisor and others as needed or required presenting any problems or issues without delay. Ensure people supported safety and maintain a safe environment. Knowledge of administrative practices and procedures as well as applicable regulations, guidelines, and policy pertaining to position and services provided; maintain documentation and submit paperwork in a timely manner; protect and preserve operations by following HIPAA guidelines. Complete all training requirements in a timely manner. Perform therapeutic intervention, CPR, and First Aid as needed. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.   QualificationsKnowledge, Skills, and Qualifications   Pass all prehire requirements such as criminal background and drug screen. Maintain a valid driver’s license and auto liability insurance. High School Diploma, GED, or suitable equivalent preferred 1 year of experience in a related field preferred A caring and positive attitude     Flexible and attentive to detail High degree of confidentiality Good organizational skills Good listening and communication skills Follow oral and written communications Certification and training—provide proof of and/or training is provided: CPR Certification, First Aid Certification, Developmental Disabilities Certification, Medication Administration, and any required training   Minimum Physical Requirements Strength: Sufficient to assist with lifting and transferring a person(s) and perform CPR. Ability to lift twenty (20) lbs. Moving, lifting, or transferring of person(s) may involve lifting of up to fifty (50) lbs., as well as assist with weights of more than one hundred (100) lbs.
