Description

Job Title: Chemical System Operator 

Department: Plating

Reports to: Operations Manager 

Effective Date: 3/13/2025


Job Summary:

The Chemical System Operator is responsible for monitoring, analyzing, and determining required adjustments necessary for the process control of the electroplating processes, waste treatment systems, and chemical solutions used in the manufacturing environment.


Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None.  


Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Performs all steps necessary to determine the correct chemical balance or material mixture needed to support proper equipment operation, product quality, or other chemical needs.
  • Conducts chemical process tests, taking and measuring samples at specified intervals and stages.
  • Drafts and distributes laboratory reports detailing results of testing, analysis, and required treatment or process adjustments necessary.
  • Safely maintains and stores all relevant tools, instruments, measuring devices, and equipment to ensure proper function. 
  • Adheres to applicable EPA regulations for proper labeling and disposal of chemical compounds and waste.
  • Work alongside Manufacturing Chemist to ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety standards.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned. 
  • Provide back-up support to the Manufacturing Chemist if needed.


Requirements

Required Skills/Abilities:

Must have familiarity and/or experience with the manufacturing process. 

Ability to work independently and be self-motivated.

Must show good analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Must have thorough attention to detail.

Ability and willingness to work with hazardous chemicals.

Knowledge of pumps, mixers, and mechanics is helpful.


Education and Experience:

Background in electroplating finishing is helpful.

Associates/Bachelors Degree in Chemistry or similar degree highly preferred.  

At least five years of related experience preferred. Although completion of on-the-job training may be substituted for educational requirements.

Physical Requirements: 

Prolonged periods working on feet and performing repetitive actions that entail frequent bending and stooping.

Prolonged periods of standing, pushing, pulling, lifting, and carrying materials.

Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time. 

Must wear all required PPE and safety equipment for various tasks.

Exposure to various chemicals and compounds.
