The Community Development Coordinator is responsible for the ongoing recruitment, processing, and placement of volunteers for Rock County. Supports the planning and implementation of ongoing special events activities, public relations and donor plans, media relationships, networking, and the communication activities of The Salvation Army of Rock County.

 

About the role:

  • Develop and implement a system to actively recruit, screen, place, and train volunteers within the various Corps programs and locations following guidelines set by the Division and Central Territory.
  • Monitors the performance of volunteers to ensure they are supported in their roles, and have the tools needed to accomplish the assigned tasks.
  • Assists in recruitment and recognition of bell ringers and other seasonal volunteers.
  • Make presentations to potential volunteers and community organizations/groups. Develop communication letters to share Salvation Army information and upcoming volunteer opportunities.
  • Serves as a Safe from Harm trainer and works with department heads and program leaders to ensure compliance with Central Territory volunteer policies.
  • Work with staff to identify new assignment possibilities for volunteers and develop volunteer position descriptions.
  • Maintains all volunteer records and statistical data in Golden; submits monthly statistical data to Corps Officer.
  • Develop and facilitate volunteer recognition events.
  • Assist with front office activities for the Rock County Administrative offices (i.e. answering phones, receiving deliveries and greeting visitors).
  • Works with and provides support to Corps Officers and Committees in the planning, organizing, coordination and promoting of Corps special events. Duties may include scheduling and maintaining communication with speakers, vendors, and participants; coordination and monitoring event timelines, preparing invitations and publicity, and managing event RSVP lists. Recruits, assigns, and supervises event volunteers.
  • Serve as a staff representative on the Public Relations Committee and records meeting minutes.
  • Develop annual media calendar and effectively create press releases, letters, and articles.
  • Develop and maintain a current and active social media and website presence including posting volunteer opportunities in Golden.
  • Research and apply for grant opportunities, following established procedures, and develop relationships with donors to support The Salvation Army of Rock County’s services.
  • Communicate with DHQ development staff to ensure regular and consistent communication with donors.
  • Effectively communicate The Salvation Army Rock Counties programs, projects, and mission to donors and community partners.

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent, some College preferred.

Certifications: Valid Driver’s License with approval to drive from TSA’s insurance carrier.

Experience: Two years’ experience with networking, fundraising, or public relations

OR - any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities

Full-time employees scheduled to work 30 or more hours per week will be eligible for full benefits, including health, dental, vision and hearing benefits, basic and voluntary life benefits, holiday pay and paid time off, which is pro-rated based on their regularly scheduled work week.

Non-Exempt Employees: Health, dental, vision, and hearing benefits, as well as basic and voluntary life benefits, will begin on the first day of the month following 90 days of employment. If the completion of a 90-day waiting period occurs on the first day of the calendar month, coverage will begin on that day.
