Overview & Responsibilities

The principal reason for this job is to apply specialized technical knowledge and experience in the testing, installation, and commissioning of engineered control system products at User sites worldwide. Requires working with contractors and User personnel at new plant construction sites and existing plant facilities to implement control system installation, from initial phase through to final start up and tuning of control loop dynamics.

When not traveling in support of new installations, provides technical support to control system users and supplements Project Engineering staff to meet new shop order control system delivery schedules.  Assures that work is carried out in accordance with the customer's expectations or specifications while ensuring that Elliott and customer safety, environmental, and quality policies are adhered to.

The engineer's contribution should be to the extent that activities covered by policy, precedent or standard procedures are handled, at times with the assistance of more senior engineering personnel. The nature of the job is such that the engineer may also become involved in activities not covered by policy, thus providing opportunity for increased knowledge and future growth.

Background and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical or Electronics highly preferred)

  • 2+ years of experience working with controls and PLCs on industrial equipment

  • At minimum, medium capability in computer skills including general programming as well as familiarity with available commercial software packages in addition to office productivity tools.

  • Demonstrated effective judgment and independence of action.

  • Ability to direct action and communicate clearly and effectively.

  • The ability to interpret drawings; understand and assist the more senior engineers in writing service bulletins, product transmittals, service reports, warranty reserves, technical papers and memos; and the ability to participate in discussions in training classes and meetings.

  • Willing and able to travel up to 50%. Travel will include international and can range from a few days to a month.

Specific Job Responsibilities/Competencies

  • Directs the field installation and commissioning of Elliott supplied control systems.

  • Co-ordinates, follows up, and provides technical expertise to Users on engineered control systems.

  • Verifies accurate instrument calibrations

  • Performs instrument loop and point-to-point wiring checks.

  • Verifies logic functions work as intended.

  • Coordinates logic and programming changes with Technical Services and Project Engineering when logic issues are discovered.

  • Provides timely site job reports and status updating reports to supervision.

  • Provides technical expertise to various EEE departments.

  • Assist Project Engineering conducting factory acceptance testing of control systems before shipment.

  • Executes site acceptance testing at User locations.

  • Documents and reports all logic and software changes in field service report and in other written form to Technical Services and Project Engineering

  • Returns final as-commissioned software code to Technical Services and Project Engineering for archiving

  • Documents customer equipment issues using CEI process.

  • Writes and assists senior engineers in the writing of Warranty Reserves.

  • Learns and maintains skills in programming of different PLC and control devices through a combination of self teaching, working with other controls engineers, and attending vendor training.

  • Maintains knowledge of company objectives and strategic and technical plans as applied to assignments and all related products, systems, and functions.

  • Participates in Technical Service management team activity as assigned.

  • Pursues career development programs based on personal interest, company products, and company direction.

  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervision.
