Overview & Responsibilities

Overview & Responsibilities

The Big Picture

We're looking for a highly skilled machinist who thrives on variety and complexity. In this role, you won't just run one machine all day—you'll perform set-up, machining, layout, minor program revisions, sub-assembly, and planned preventative maintenance across multiple advanced systems. You'll be the backbone of our Master Machining Cell, machining critical turbomachinery components on equipment like the Masterhead, Mill/Turn, and DMU600P.

If you're the kind of machinist who likes to think on your feet, solve problems, and take ownership of high-value work, this is your opportunity.

The Equipment You'll Master

You'll operate and support a Master Machining Cell that includes:

  • Large Gantry CNC Vertical Machines

  • Portal Machines

  • Masterhead Machining Center

  • Mill/Turn Machining Center System (including DMU600P)

Tools & Technology You'll Use

  • Micro-computers and DNC network

  • Tool presetting equipment

  • Precision measuring devices

  • Jib hoist, overhead crane, forklift trucks, and other material handling equipment

  • Pedestal tool grinders, deburring tools, fixtures, and hand tools

Materials You'll Work With

All materials used in machining heavy turbomachinery equipment—so you'll be working with substantial, high-stakes components.

How You'll Work

You'll receive direction from management, but you'll operate with real autonomy. Each day starts by reviewing the workload schedule, which tells you:

  • The Preventive Maintenance Plan (PM) for each machine

  • Which part to machine

  • Which part to set up

  • Tooling requirements for all scheduled parts

  • What part is coming next

From there, you're in the driver's seat.

What You'll Do Day-to-Day

Planning & Setup

  • Interpret prints, drawings (part and tool), sketches, and instructions

  • Plan and gather all necessary tooling, setup hardware, and measuring gages for the next scheduled part

  • Obtain drawings, tools, and fixtures from the tool crib

  • Pull materials from stock and help maintain department tooling inventory

  • Perform layout functions (angles, radii, tapers, bolt circles, center punching, etc.)

  • Install and adjust tools, clamps, and fixtures

  • Position and align parts; set proper feeds and speeds

Machining & Operation

  • Perform machining operations in CNC mode or manually

  • Run multiple-axis machines (large gantry and portal machines)

  • Set up machines to run unattended after programs are proven out and tool functions are monitored

  • Monitor all machine tool functions

  • Use DNC network

  • Operate tap disintegrator as needed

  • Rebuild, adjust, change, and dress tools

  • Use grinding attachments

Quality & Verification

  • Perform all part verification requirements, including completing Data Sheets

  • Verify accuracy of micrometers

  • Check parts to ensure operations are complete

  • Deburr as necessary

  • Stencil or stamp parts for identification

Maintenance & Housekeeping

  • Perform all planned preventive maintenance (PM) requirements

  • Lubricate, wipe, and oil machine ways

  • Maintain good housekeeping

  • Report defective material or equipment to management

Material Handling & Safety

  • Use jib hoist, overhead crane, forklift truck, and other material handling equipment

  • Work from ladders and scaffolds as needed

  • Observe all safety rules

Documentation & Communication

  • Report production count, time, and identifying data

  • Prepare, complete, and issue documentation related to the Master Machining Center

Decision-Making & Autonomy

You'll use established processing methods and procedures, but you'll also make routine shift decisions about continuing machining operations or adjusting the system. Once a program is proven out and all tool functions are monitored, you'll have the green light to run machines unattended—so trust and accountability are big parts of this role.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Must be able and willing to work 1st (7am–3pm), 2nd (3pm–11pm), and 3rd (11pm–7am) shifts. Shifts are not guaranteed and are subject to realignment.

  • Must be able and willing to work overtime, weekends, and holidays.
