JOB SUMMARY:

The Environmental Services Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily custodial operations of assigned campus facilities and supervising environmental services staff. This position ensures buildings are clean, safe, and properly maintained while supporting service quality, staff productivity, and customer satisfaction. The supervisor serves as a working leader who coordinates schedules, inspections, training, and day-to-day operational needs.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Operations Oversight

  • Supervise daily custodial operations in assigned buildings and areas.
  • Assign work tasks and monitor completion of scheduled duties.
  • Conduct routine inspections to ensure cleanliness and service standards are met.
  • Coordinate event setups, special cleaning projects, and emergency response needs.
  • Report maintenance issues, safety concerns, and facility deficiencies.

Staff Supervision

  • Lead, train, and support environmental services staff.
  • Monitor attendance, productivity, and performance expectations.
  • Assist with onboarding and ongoing staff training.
  • Provide coaching, corrective action documentation, and performance feedback.
  • Ensure proper shift coverage and communicate staffing needs to management.

Supplies & Equipment

  • Monitor inventory of cleaning supplies and restock as needed.
  • Ensure custodial equipment is used properly and maintained in good condition.
  • Report repair or replacement needs for tools and equipment.

Safety & Compliance

  • Enforce safe work practices and proper chemical handling procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with institutional policies and applicable safety standards.
  • Maintain clean and organized storage and janitorial closets.

Customer Service

  • Respond to service requests and resolve issues in a timely manner.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with campus departments, students, and staff.
  • Communicate operational updates and concerns to the Manager of Environmental Services.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 3+ years of custodial, housekeeping, or environmental services experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 1+ year of supervisory or lead experience preferred.
  • Experience in higher education, healthcare, or large-scale facilities.
  • Knowledge of custodial equipment and modern cleaning technologies.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Prolonged standing and walking across campus facilities for inspections and operational support.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 lbs., including equipment and supplies.
  • Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, and reaching (overhead and below waist).
  • Operation of custodial equipment and carts, including pushing/pulling loaded equipment.
  • Exposure to cleaning chemicals, dust, and varying indoor/outdoor environmental conditions.
