Job Summary:
The Quality Technician is responsible for facilitating the parts quality process throughout the organization. In partnership with internal business units, this role ensures the precision and inspection of parts moving into the facility. This role supports Generac Quality Management Systems, drives data collection, reporting and analysis. Partners with leaders in the daily operation of an area with responsibility to improve quality systems, processes, and performance.
Responsibilities:
Quality Tech I
- Conducts process and product audits to ensure team members are following standardized operating procedures and adhering to all quality standards.
- Implements resolutions from basic to moderately complex problems.
- Exercises judgement within procedures and practices in selecting methods and techniques for arriving at solutions.
- Implements process improvements to continuously improve quality.
- Cross train in multiple departments or stations and flex to other similar departments based on business necessity.
- Assist with NPI/ECN changes and other duties as assigned by Quality Supervisor or Manager
- Suggest and implement improvements of existing equipment, designs, and/or processes to improve safety, quality, delivery, and productivity.
- Resolve problems with assistance from peers or supervisors depending on the level and complexity.
Quality Tech II
- All Quality Tech I responsibilities
- Able to conduct standardized problem-solving process and aid/support implementing corrective actions to resolve design, supplier, or production quality issues.
- Supports facility in gage/tool calibration and Gage Repeatability and Reproducibility (GR&R)
- Trains others in quality tool usage to implement process improvements to continuously improve quality.
Quality Tech III
- All Quality Tech I & II responsibilities
- Uses initiative and judgement to lead problem solving and implementing appropriate countermeasures.
- Carry out calibration duties, update KPI board for Quality, assist with training new Quality Techs
- Leading team/virtual meetings and exchange job related information
- Solve problems independently within designated authority level.
- Uses root cause problem solving (5 WHY, 8D, PDCA, etc.)
- Effectively training other employees to work instructions/standard work
Requirements:
Quality Technician I
Education: High School diploma or equivalent
Experience: 0–3 years in quality
Problem Solving: Basic
Leadership: Supports team communication and metrics
Technical Knowledge: Basic drawing, wiring, schematic interpretation; intermediate PC skills
Quality Technician II
Education: Associate’s degree or equivalent
Experience: 3+ years in quality
Problem Solving: Moderate
Leadership: Leads team communication on quality metrics and project countermeasures; ability to train others
Technical Knowledge: Intermediate knowledge of PPAP, PFMEA, Quality Control Plans, mistake proofing, NMR, ECR, SPC, ISO processes; CMM programming knowledge
Quality Technician III
Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred
Experience: 5+ years in quality or Certified Quality Technician preferred
Problem Solving: Advanced, including cross-functional issues
Leadership: Leads multiple teams or departments; mentors and trains others
Technical Knowledge: Advanced knowledge of all QC tools, ISO systems, and process improvement methodologies; design audits and complex corrective actions
Additional Skills (All Levels)
Maintain professional rapport with peers and support groups
Communicate issues and countermeasures to Supervisor
Perform reading, writing, and math functions
Commitment to continuous learning and quality standards
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. On occasion the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 - 50 pounds. Specific conditions of this job are typical of frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting, close vision and ability to adjust focus. Occasional travel.
