Position Overview:

The Controls Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of control systems in various industrial applications. The ideal candidate will have experience with PLCs, SCADA systems, and other automation technologies specific to food production. Scheduled hours for this 2nd shift position are 2:30PM - 11:00PM.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Install, configure, and maintain control systems, including PLCs and HMI software.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical and control system issues to minimize downtime.
  • Perform routine maintenance and inspections on control equipment.
  • Collaborate with engineering and production teams to design and implement control solutions that enhance efficiency and quality.
  • Document system modifications, maintenance activities, and standard operating procedures.
  • Train staff on control system operations and best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety regulations and industry standards.
  • Assist in the development of project specifications and timelines.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

  • Strong troubleshooting skills in electrical and control systems.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Familiarity with HMI and SCADA systems specific to food production environments.
  • Knowledge of food safety standards and regulatory compliance.
  • Proficiency in programming PLCs (e.g. Allen-Bradley, Siemens).
  • Knowledge of network protocols (e.g. Ethernet/IP, Modbus).

Education & Experience:

  • Associate’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Technology, or related field.
  • Proven experience as a Controls Technician or similar role in food manufacturing or related industries.
  • Experience with robotics and automation.

Work Environment:

  • Exposure to both the office setting and food manufacturing facility.
  • Significant amount of time working at a computer station.
  • Occasional visits to various areas of the manufacturing floor.
    • Must wear required PPE while in all manufacturing areas.
    • Moving parts and machinery are present in the plant.

Physical demands:

  • Frequent sitting, standing, or walking.
  • Occasional ability to lift up to 50lbs.
  • Ability to physically perform functions of repetitive motion, grasping, lifting, pulling, pushing, reaching, crouching, kneeling, stooping, balancing, and climbing.
  • Noise levels will vary, higher noise levels exist while in the plant operations areas.
