POSITION SUMMARY
Denton Floyd Real Estate Group is seeking an Accountant to support the accounting and financial reporting needs of our Business Development division. This role serves the operating companies and business lines that sit outside of Forge Construction, Vector Design Group, DF Property Management, Capital Markets, and corporate Finance — with primary focus on entities in which Denton Floyd holds a 50/50 joint venture ownership position.
This is a hands-on, entity-level accounting role. The Accountant will own the day-to-day books for a portfolio of partnership companies, produce the reporting packages that both Denton Floyd and our joint venture partners rely on, and serve as the accounting point of contact between DF and partner-side finance teams. Because these entities are equally owned, accuracy, neutrality, and clear documentation are essential — the work product is reviewed by two sets of owners.
The position reports to Business Development leadership and partners closely with corporate Accounting, external CPA firms, and joint venture partner organizations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Joint Venture & Partnership Accounting
•    Maintain complete and separate general ledgers for each assigned joint venture entity, ensuring no commingling of activity between partnership companies and DF-owned entities.
•    Record and reconcile capital contributions, distributions, and member equity activity in accordance with each entity's operating agreement.
•    Track ownership percentages, profit and loss allocations, and preferred return or waterfall provisions as defined by governing documents.
•    Process intercompany transactions, cost-sharing arrangements, management fees, and allocation true-ups between DF entities and partnership companies; reconcile intercompany balances monthly.
•    Apply the accounting-relevant terms of operating agreements, joint venture agreements, and amendments; escalate provisions that are ambiguous or appear inconsistent with current practice.
Financial Close & Reporting
•    Own the monthly and annual close for assigned entities, including journal entries, accruals, prepaids, fixed assets, depreciation, and account reconciliations.
•    Prepare entity-level financial statements — balance sheet, income statement, and statement of cash flows — on a consistent and timely schedule.
•    Build and distribute partner reporting packages, including financial statements, variance commentary, distribution schedules, and supporting detail.
•    Perform budget-to-actual variance analysis and provide written explanation of material variances to Business Development leadership and partner stakeholders.
•    Support the annual budgeting and reforecasting process for assigned entities.
Transactional & Operational Support
•    Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable for assigned entities, including invoice coding, approval routing, vendor setup documentation, and aging review.
•    Perform bank and credit card reconciliations and monitor entity-level cash position; flag funding needs to leadership in advance.
•    Maintain organized, audit-ready documentation and support schedules for every entity in the assigned portfolio.
•    Assist with accounting onboarding for newly formed joint ventures, including chart of accounts setup, system configuration, and establishment of reporting cadence.
Compliance & External Coordination
•    Coordinate with external CPA firms on tax preparation, K-1 issuance, and year-end workpaper requests for each partnership entity.
•    Support financial reviews, audits, and lender or partner requests for information.
•    Assist with sales and use tax, business licensing, and other entity-level filings as applicable.
•    Serve as the day-to-day accounting liaison to joint venture partner finance teams, responding to inquiries professionally and with appropriate discretion.
•    Identify opportunities to standardize and improve accounting processes across the partnership portfolio.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
•    Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
•    Two to five years of progressive accounting experience, including ownership of a full monthly close cycle.
•    Working knowledge of GAAP and accrual-basis accounting.
•    Demonstrated ability to prepare financial statements and account reconciliations independently.
•    Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, lookups, and multi-source reconciliation work.
•    Proven accuracy, organization, and the ability to manage multiple entities and deadlines concurrently.
•    Professional written and verbal communication skills suitable for direct interaction with ownership-level stakeholders.
Preferred
•    Experience with multi-entity, partnership, or joint venture accounting structures.
•    Background in real estate, construction, development, or a related asset-intensive industry.
•    Familiarity with partnership equity concepts — capital accounts, distributions, allocations, and waterfall structures.
•    Exposure to CPA coordination, K-1 support, or partnership tax workpapers.
•    Experience with Sage Intacct, Yardi, Viewpoint, QuickBooks, or comparable accounting platforms.
•    CPA licensure or active progress toward licensure.
CORE COMPETENCIES
•    Discretion and Neutrality. Produces work product reviewed by two equal owners; credibility depends on consistency and objectivity.
•    Ownership Mindset. Comfortable serving as the single accounting owner for an entity rather than one step in a larger process.
•    Documentation Discipline. Leaves a clear trail so that any reviewer — internal, partner, or external — can follow the work.
•    Adaptability. The partnership portfolio grows and changes; new entities and new reporting expectations are part of the role.
•    Proactive Communication. Surfaces cash, variance, and timing issues early rather than at reporting deadlines.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Denton Floyd offers a competitive compensation package commensurate with experience, including base salary, annual performance bonus eligibility, medical, dental, and vision coverage, 401(k) with company match, paid time off, and paid holidays.
